Netflix viewers in awe as most expensive movie of 2023 is finally here

The most expensive movie of 2023 is finally here, and viewers seem to be rating the film a lot higher than the critics.

The Zack Snyder led film follows a lone-wolf soldier (Sofia Boutella) who is a long way from her former life fighting for the Imperium - the brutal interstellar royal empire aiming to take charge of the galaxy.

Although Kara finds community on the farming moon of Veldt, her violent past comes to haunt her as admiral Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein) pays her a visit following the orders of the Imperium’s tyrannical regent, Balisarius (Fra Fee).

Titled Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire, the star-studded cast includes the likes of Anthony Hopkins, The Gentleman star Charlie Hunam and Kingsman villainess Sofia Boutelle.

This action-packed film has kept fans on their toes since it was announced in February last year - especially after it was revealed that the budget would be so high that the film was going to get split into two parts.

Now, it is understood that the studio have dropped a huge portion of his budget on design.

Instead of relying on the likes of advanced technology and special effects to bring their otherworldly spaces to life, the director chose to create practical sets in a Santa Clarita canyon just outside Los Angeles.

Amongst the intricately-detailed complexes built by the crew was a Scandinavian-style village, which was complete with homes, shops and barns, as well as a stone bridge and even an entire river.

Vanity Fair claimed earlier this year that the incoming hit is estimated to have cost a whopping $166 million (£130 million) to make.

So far, it's hard to say if the film was worth all that money.

Some viewers seem to be liking it a lot, as one person commented: "OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH

"I DIDNT REALIZE HOW MUCH I LOVED THIS MOVIE AHHH."

Another added: "Yeaaaaaaaaaaa Zack honestly cooked with #RebelMoon, it's pure cinema,"

While a third also said: "That s**t was amazing. Can't wait to actually see part two."

However, with a 23 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, not everyone has rated it so far.

"A ponderous slog from Snyder that wastes time on stock characters and slow-mo battle sequences," one critic said.

"For now, though, it's arguable that Rebel Moon stands as an overloaded space opera that offers too much, too late..." a second wrote.

"A pointless pile of sci-fi leftovers. You could watch it if you’re curious, I just can’t recommend it," a third added.

Notably, the audience score was a lot more generous at 72 percent.
