Subscription fees are ever-increasing but the addition of a new show this week could potentially cost UK viewers thousands of pounds.
The hit streaming platform, which has changed the way many of us watch television, has had huge hit shows such as Stranger Things (remember that) and Squid Games in recent years.
After Manifest was cancelled by NBC, Netflix turned it into one of its most watched shows, and fans are always finding something new to watch.
Watching live television has become a thing of the past for many but Netflix has expanded its services recently to show live events such as WWE, with Home Alone star Macauley Culkin even making an appearance in one of the recent live premieres from Los Angeles, alongside wrestling legends The Rock and John Cena.
John Mulaney is the star of a new show on Netflix (Phillip Faraone/VF25/Getty Images) Brits were warned then that watching the wrestling live could cost them £1,000 and that will also be the case when a new live comedy show airs on the streaming service later this week.
The new comedy show Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney, who recently passed up hosting the Oscars, will premiere on Thursday 13 March and for UK fans of the Big Mouth star, the show presents a real risk of a heavy fine.
Any viewers who tune into the show who do not have a TV licence and forget that legally they need one for live programmes, would effectively be breaking the law by watching along.
Ever since catch up TV and streaming services were introduced, many may have given up on paying the licence fee that is required to watch live television in the UK.
Fortunately for any fans who might want to see Mulaney's new show, it will be broadcast live from the US at 10pm ET, which is 2am in the UK, so unless you are serious night owl or are bored on your night shift, you'll probably be tucked up in bed at that point.
If you simply cannot wait to watch it then first of all you probably need to sort out your priorities but second of all you need to make sure that you have a TV licence, otherwise the officers that no doubt sent many letters to your university address, may soon be showing up at your front door.
So, it might be best to wait until the next day to catch up on Mulaney's live show if you've not got a licence, and perhaps also to ensure that his jokes don't go over your head when you're half asleep.
