Elon Musk admitted he was in 'severe emotional pain for weeks' following Amber Heard breakup

The Tesla boss said he was 'really in love' with Amber Heard

Although he's lived a few lifetimes, dated several more ladies and welcomed another eight children since, Elon Musk was once in a relationship with Amber Heard.

And when their short-lived romance came to an abrupt end, it was the billionaire who was left feeling lovesick, rather than the Aquaman actress.

Musk admitted he was left in 'severe emotional pain' for weeks after he broke up with Heard, despite them only being together for a mere few months.

Then again, he'd had his eye on the Texas-born star for years before that, as he first took a liking to Heard after seeing her in the 2013 film Machete Kills.

But it seems Musk decided to play the long game, as he was first romantically linked to Heard three years later when they enjoyed a few outings in 2016.

By April the following year, the pair had taken their relationship public after Heard's divorce from Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp was finalised.

The couple both seemed to agree that their relationship was both long distance and on-and-off in nature when talking to talking to Walter Isaacson for the 2023 authorised biography of Musk, aptly titled Elon Musk.

The SpaceX boss described their entanglement as 'brutal' in the book, while Heard said of her former fella: "I love him very much. Elon loves fire, and sometimes it burns him."

He reportedly flew to Australia to visit her during filming for Aquaman, while the actress would hop on planes to California to surprise Musk at the Tesla factory. A modern day love story, if you will.

But ultimately, their work commitments and busy schedules ended up getting in the way of their romance and they called it quits in August 2017, according to People.

Around this time, Musk posted on Instagram saying: "Although Amber and I did break up, we are still friends, remain close and love one another.

"Long distance relationships when both partners have intense work obligations are always difficult, but who knows what the future holds."

But about six weeks after the break up, Musk admitted that he had been left brokenhearted by splitting with Heard.

In November 2017, he told Rolling Stone of his relationship with the London Fields actress: "I was really in love, and it hurt bad. I’ve been in severe emotional pain for the last few weeks. Severe."

Musk said it took 'every ounce of will' for him to get through the Tesla Model 3 launch event which had taken place in July that year and 'not look like the most depressed guy around'.

"For most of that day, I was morbid," he continued. "And then I had to psych myself up: drink a couple of Red Bulls, hang out with positive people and then, like, tell myself: ‘I have all these people depending on me. All right, do it!'"

However, Musk also knew there were plenty more fish in the sea and he spoke of his desire to find the perfect someone who he could be in a 'long-term relationship' with.

"I’m not looking for a one-night stand," the businessman said. "I’m looking for a serious companion or soulmate, that kind of thing.

"I will never be happy without having someone. Going to sleep alone kills me. It’s not like I don’t know what that feels like: Being in a big empty house, and the footsteps echoing through the hallway, no one there.

"And no one on the pillow next to you. F**k. How do you make yourself happy in a situation like that?

Musk welcomed what is believed to be his 14th child, Seldon Lycurgus, in March this year with Neuralink director Shivon Zilis, who he already shares twins Strider and Azure and one-year-old Arcadia with.

His relationship status is a bit unclear, but one things for sure - he'll never have an empty house with the more than half a dozen kids he's got.
