Netflix viewers have spotted a major ‘mistake’ in Squid Game season two, but are now questioning if it actually is, or if it’s just a hidden hint to what’s coming next.
Squid Game season two released on Netflix on Boxing Day, 2024, and has remained the biggest show in the world on the platform ever since.
Whilst it has been overtaken in the UK by Harlan Coben’s Missing You, it remains the biggest worldwide, as well as being number one in 92 countries this week.
The second season sees the return of Seong Gi-Hun to the game.

In the third episode, following the first game of Red Light, Green Light, the contestants are given one last out, where they are offered to all leave the game having seen the deadly consequences.
Following Seong Gi-Hun’s vote, number 388 is called forward.
This is where fans noticed the issue.
One tweeted: “During the Squid Game2 voting, a potbellied man steps forward as player 388.

“His scene is abruptly cut to Gihun & Jungbae. How’s player 388 magically turn from a short-haired, middle-aged-looking man into a semi long-haired, macho young guy named Daeho in just one day?”
Player 388, Daeho, is a major part of the show’s second season, survives to the end and looks nothing like the player 388 who steps forward to vote.
The fan, however, noted that this may all be part of the show’s plan.

He said: “There are things about player 388 Kang Daeho (Kang Haneul) in Squid Game 2 that I need answered in season 3.
“I wanna think he’s not what season 2 wants us to believe he is, but maybe the frontman’s spy/henchman tasked to protect him when he decided to join the game?”
He went on to add: “Kang Haneul is nowhere in eps 1-3. He suddenly pops up in ep 4, about the same time the frontman joins the game.
“Daeho introduces himself only to Gihun & Jungbae when the frontman stopped staring at him and just looked down as if telling him ‘one wrong move & our act is done.’”

Other viewers chimed in on the theory regarding the ‘mistake’, and the majority seemed to think they were on to something.
One fan responded, saying: “I noticed this and thought I was going crazy!”
Another replied, adding to the theory and saying: “Another clue that I catch it's that, in the carousel game, after the "teams of four" round, the screens show that actually 166 people survived, but 166 it's not divisible by 4, so 2 people must be left alive by the soldiers."

Others however, were less keen on the theory.
One fan responded saying: “Honestly I just think it's a mistake with a random stand in actor as Daeho was not introduced yet and the actors doesn't make an appearance.”
Whichever it is, you’ll be able to find out sooner than you may have expected, with Squid Game season three set to release this year.
