Squid Game fans make complaint about season 2 and think it will ruin their viewing experience

The apparent change has not gone unnoticed by fans

A brand new trailer for the highly anticipated second season of hit Netflix show Squid Game is here - and it's already dividing viewers.

The first look teaser from Netflix dropped earlier today and features a group of competitors running along a track before falling down one by one.

The clip then zooms in on the ominous Front Man, who confirms that the dystopian survival game is back again.

Flanked by the signature masked messengers, he says to the camera: "It's been three years, do you want to play again?"

Season two of Squid Game will premiere in December this year, while a third and final season has been confirmed for 2025.

You'd think that after three years without the brutal thriller series, fans would be excited to see dystopian games begin again - and some are pretty hyped; however, several viewers were left underwhelmed by the promo.

In fact, a few people pointed out that it was strange to see a TV show set in South Korea suddenly appear so 'Americanised'.

"Why is it American now," one disappointed viewer responded to the TikTok promo, while a second added: "Why does it look Americanised," alongside a string of crying laughing emojis.

"What? It's American now?" a third person added.

Whether or not the newer seasons will receive an Americanised makeover remains to be seen, however, the streamer is promising plenty more drama for the upcoming season.

According to a synopsis from Netflix, season two will also take place three years later with victorious Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), aka Player 456, vowing to use his winnings to put an end to the vicious game.

"Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 remains determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their vicious sport," the synopsis reads.

Using his immense wealth from winning the previous game, Gi-hun finds the path to take them down to be 'deadlier than he imagined' - and in order to end things once and for all, he must 're-enter' the game arena.

Also joining Lee for the second season are Lee Byung-hun as Front Man, Gong Yoo as a Recruiter, and Wi Ha-jun as Hwang Jun-ho.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk has also teased Seong's revenge arc in the upcoming season, confirming that his vengeance plot against Front Man will see him re-enter the game once again.

"The fierce clash between their two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year," he added.

Squid Game season two premieres on 26 December, 2024.
