Paul Mescal is trying to set the record straight on how fans are supposed to be pronouncing his name, and apparently we've been getting it wrong all this time.
It's very exciting times for the actor as earlier this year it was confirmed that he's set to star in Ridley Scott's much-anticipated sequel to Gladiator, which is scheduled for release in November next year.
He's also landed the years-long lead role in Richard Linklater's Merrily We Roll Along which is going to follow the director's penchant for letting the actors age naturally with the characters.

That means Mescal has paid work for the next 20 years, but there's also plenty of time in-between for him to pursue other projects.
His star is most certainly on the rise, and with that in mind it might be time for everyone to make sure we're saying his name right.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the Normal People star explained that people kept pronouncing his name wrong because it sounded like a drink.

Looking on the bright side of things, he suggested that he could cash in on the similarities and teach people that his name was pronounced differently by launching his own booze brand.
He said: "People get confused with how to pronounce my name because of the drink Mezcal.
"Everybody does it. I pronounce it 'Mescal' and I wonder if I launched a tequila line I would have to, I would call it 'Mescal's Mezcal'.
"I'm on the fence, I'm on the fence about that one."

Mezcal is any kind of drink made from agave, so all tequila is mezcal but not all mezcal is tequila and to make things even more confusing, it's sometimes spelt like the actor's name anyway.
It's a mistake a lot of people have been making, but Mescal is hoping that he can set the record straight and teach people how to say it properly.
Plenty of the actor's fans have taken to social media to moan about their struggles to pronounce his name properly.

One person said they know it's 'pronounced like Paul Mescle' but their 'brain automatically goes Paul Mezcal'.
Another said every time they saw his name they 'pronounce it like mezcal' in their head.
Someone else wondered how we got into this situation in the first place as it 'should have been obvious that Irish actor Paul Mescal's last name would not be pronounced like the Mexican liquor'.

Others said they were 'flabbergasted', which is frankly an excellent word, to learn how his name is pronounced, while more said it 'always makes me laugh' when people got it wrong.
