Baz Luhrmann's Elvis may have been one of the highly anticipated movies of the year but people have been left divided by Tom Hanks' portrayal of Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis Presley's infamous manager. Check out his character here:
At the beginning of the movie we hear Parker say: "There are some who’d make me out to be the villain of this here story."

For Elvis fans, this statement may ring true to the real life Parker, who exploited the rock and roll star.
From the get go, the manager made it known he was only interested in making money, with Elvis being a means of easily pocketing large amounts of cash. Parker even went as far as selling 'I hate Elvis' badges.
While the real Parker is disliked by many, it seems that some people aren't keen on Hanks' version of him either.
The King of Rock and Roll's biopic hit cinemas on Friday and viewers have since flocked to social media to share their thoughts, with some throwing criticism at Hanks.
When someone responded to say that the trailer looked good, a twitter user replied back to explain their reason for their criticism.

They added: "if you like music biopics, it’s fine, it checks all the right boxes but Tom Hanks is trying this incredibly distracting accent that he never gets right in makeup & a fat suit it's like trying to be Johnny Depp in Pirates but simultaneously trying too hard and not hard enough."
It seems the user was not alone, as another twitter user also took aim at Hanks' accent.
Some people were left confused trying to identify what Hanks' accent was supposed to be.
For others it seemed the enjoying the movie was simply beyond the realms of possibility as one user said: "i wish i could enjoy the Elvis movie, but tom hanks is legitimately terrible."

Meanwhile another user joked about taking an Oscar away from the actor.
Despite the criticism of Hanks and his accent, the biopic has otherwise been praised by fans on social media.
Hanks' co-star Austin Butler has been praised as the lead role, with film critics stating that his performance perfectly embodies the King.
