Russel Crowe is set to star in Sony Pictures’ upcoming thriller based on the real-life exorcisms of Father Gabriele Amorth.
Holy smoke, get ready, people, because although we’ve seen the Academy-Award-winning actor as a Gladiator, a Nobel Prize-winning mathematician, even Robin Hood, we’ve never seen him quite like this.
The Pope’s Exorcist is set to have you on the edge of your seat as it follows the actual files of Father Gabriel Amorth, the Chief Exorcist of the Vatican, played by Crowe.

However, Amorth is unlike your regular soft-spoken, holy water-carrying, crucifix-wearing spiritual leader, as he works as a detective and exorcist.
At the beginning of the movie, Amorth is called in to cure a boy who has become possessed by something rather ‘evil’.
However, this is just the tip of the iceberg, as the case leads him down a spiral of conspiracies that the Vatican tried to keep hidden for centuries.

While a third shared: “I love it when seasoned actors star in movies about the supernatural…Anthony Hopkins was the best thing about the movie The Rite and I personally feel that Russell will deliver the same exact stellar performance in this movie. I’m there!”

Just to give you some context around Father Amorth’s story - Amorth was an Italian Catholic priest and exorcist of the Diocese of Rome who claimed to have performed tens of thousands of exorcisms throughout his lifetime.
He worked around the same time as demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren, who inspired numerous films directed by the horror king, James Wan.
Annabel, The Conjuring, The Nun - yep, that’s these guys.

Just like the Warrens, Father Amorth’s cases serve as the inspiration for the upcoming horror flick.
And given what we’ve already seen, we can’t wait til the thriller hits the big screen.
The Pope’s Exorcist is set to be theatrically released on April 6.
So grab the popcorn, people and possibly a hand to squeeze, as this flick will give you full-body chills.
