The newest trend on TikTok is encouraging people to make their own butter with a simple recipe as the cost of living crisis hits shopping bills.
People are making creative decisions to battle the increasing cost of food as The National Institute of Economic and Social Research now forecasts that inflation will hit 11% by the end of the year.
Across the UK, price tags have increased on essential foods including milk, a loaf of bread, coffee, teabags, beans, chicken breasts and mince.

But one food product that has kept hitting headlines with it's ever-increasing cost - butter. Last month, shoppers were shocked to see the cost of a 750g tub of Lurpak butter hit £7.25 at Sainsbury’s.
Thanks to TikTok, people are now cutting costs by making their own butter.
Sass Bakes (@sassbakes) said in her TikTok which has gained over 80k likes: "Fed up with the price of butter? Learn how to turn this [double cream], into this [butter], using only this [protein shaker bottle]."
In the video she pours a 99p carton of double cream into the protein shaker bottle. She adds a glass with a lid or any bottle with a wide neck can work as well.

Then you just have to shake, and shake, and shake the bottle some more as the cream begins to thicken."You got to keep going past the thickness. You'll start to think that your arms are going to fall off and you'll also start to think that it can't get any thicker. It can, I promise you." she said.
Eventually the cream will begin to curdle and the water will begin to separate from it. Once you can hear the water - which is now buttermilk - slushing around, then you are done shaking.
At the bottom of the shaker there should be a 'blob' of butter. Sass said the butter needs to be rinsed under cold water and people can add salt to taste.
People in the comments were shocked at how simple butter is to make. "Wait, so, why are we buying butter?" one commenter said.

Another added: "I'll try this! I love to bake but butter has gotten too expensive to justify it and it's just not the same with margarine."
Others chimed into to suggest using a food mixer or blender rather than shaking it to prevent sore arms.
