When it comes to romantic relationships, there's nothing more difficult to navigate then a break-up, especially if you're not in agreement over the end of the relationship.
For the dumped party, you're left heartbroken and rejected, while the the person initiating the break-up is often feeling guilty over the whole situation.
There's no easy way out of it, unfortunately.

However, there are still certain unwritten rules to follow during the sticky aftermath of a failed romance, and sending an ex-partner a present wrapped in pink tissue paper isn't one of them.
Yet, this is exactly what happened for one TikToker and the contents of the gift has left viewers divided.
In a video with the caption, 'I dumped him after 7 years and he gave me this gift', a user named Jessica (though formerly Rachel) filmed herself unwrapping the present accompanied by a sad song.
After removing the layers of tissue paper, she revealed a note which read: "I know you don’t love me anymore. Love yourself now, Kev."

Underneath that was the book Fall in Love with Yourself by Angel Gaudia, suggesting that Jessica's former partner may have been trying to send a pointed message about her own self-image.

The clip, originally posted last year, has since gone viral as people attempt to decipher what the woman's ex was trying to say by sending such a book — and people were divided into two camps on the subject.
On one side you had people telling Jessica the gift was 'manipulative' and a last ditch attempt to hurt her, while others thought it was kind gesture.
"Can’t tell if it’s manipulation or actual genuineness," one user wrote, while a second added: "They always only do stuff like this when it’s too late."
"I swear he’s making fun of you," posted a third.

Meanwhile, the more sentimental among us thought it was a sign that the original poster had made a huge mistake.
"NO GIRL. YOU MADE A MISTAKE. SOS. GET HIM BACK NOWWWW," one horrified viewer added.

"7 yrs?? the most genuine gift?? go get your soulmate back babe," a second person wrote.
Although, if anyone hoping for a happy ever after should look away now, as Jessica would ultimately end up burning the gift on the advice of several comments (via VT).

She then admitted in a separate TikTok that the biggest mistake she made was loving her partner more than she loved herself.
And there lies some advice for those who may be going through the same thing. Self-love is crucial.
