Gogglebox couple release statement as they're axed from show after three years

A beloved Gogglebox couple will no longer be part of the show

A fan-favourite Gogglebox duo have announced that they won't be returning for the new season.

They first made an appearance on the hit Channel 4 show in 2022, sharing their thoughts on various bits of telly that the UK has to offer. Scottish couple Roisin Kelly and Joe Kyle will no longer be gracing our screens on Friday nights.

They have since taken to social media to announce their departure from the TV show after three years.

The popular pair have left fans heartbroken with the announcement, as they highlighted how 'grateful' they were for the opportunity, even posting some memes to poke fun at how they weren't offered the chance to come back.

It hasn't been confirmed when season 26 of Gogglebox will begin airing, though it is expected to be in the Autumn at some point.

In a post on Roisin's TikTok account, a statement from the pair read: "After three and a half years of sitting on the sofa Channel 4 have decided it's time for Joe and I to stretch our legs and have not asked us back for season 26.

"Therefore we are leaving the Gogglebox family."

It went on: "We couldn't be more grateful to Studio Lambert for the opportunity, the experience has actually been so mad and we will miss watching TV with you all on Friday nights!"

"It's been an honour to represent Scotland as some of the first Scottish people on the show and prove we don't actually need subtitles," they joked.

They said that the whole experience was 'so mad' to go through, especially given that they were the first Scots to appear on the show at all in six years at the time of their introduction.

Noting that they'd 'made friends for life', they described the team as being 'like our family' after their years on screen.

They went on: "We could not have asked for better people to work with and we will miss you immensely.

Describing it as a 'once in a lifetime opportunity', they signed off: "Time to watch TV in silence for a bit and put down the popcorn."

One fan wrote in the comments: "Noooooo!!!! Ahhh we love you guys- and cant wait to see what you do next xx"

Another added: "What a miss you guys will be! Flew the flag for us in Aberdeenshire."

It's not all doom and gloom though, as Roisin also joked about being able to 'work with brands and companies' as she no longer has to adhere to a contract despite having over 63,000 followers on TikTok and over 21,000 followers on Instagram.

A spokesperson for Channel 4 stated: “We thank Joe and Roisin for their contributions to Gogglebox over the years, and wish them all the best for the future.”
