Jermaine Jenas releases statement after being axed from BBC

Jermaine Jenas worked on The One Show and Match of the Day, but was sacked by the BBC

Jermaine Jenas has released a statement after being axed from the BBC.

The sports pundit was a presenter on Match of the Day and The One Show.

“We can confirm that he is no longer part of our presenting line-up,” a BBC spokesperson said on Thursday (22 August).

Reports have also suggested that Jenas has been dropped by agent MC Saatchi after his page was unable to view on the company website.

On the same day of the sacking announcement, the 41-year-old ex-footballer featured as presenter on talkSPORT’s ‘Drive’ programme alongside Jermaine Pennant.

Viewers were stunned after seeing him on talkSPORT today, as one wrote on X: "When the BBC announced the sacking of Jermaine Jenas, he was live on talkSPORT talking about the odds of Erik ten Hag getting sacked."

Another wrote: "Jermaine Jenas sacked by BBC whilst he is live on talkSPORT taking phone calls is incredible."

Now, this evening (22 August) a spokesperson on behalf of Jenas has told The Sun: "Right now I can’t talk about it.

"I can tell you I’m not happy - there are two sides to every story - and I’m going to be speaking with my lawyers on the issue."

This comes after Jenas said he was keen to replace Gary Lineker as the lead presenter on Match of the Day.

“I would obviously be up for it… it’s Match of the Day and it would be a great opportunity,” he told the Daily Mail.

“I haven’t thought that far ahead but I hosted Match of the Day 2, which was the first one I’ve ever done. I loved it, it felt comfortable to me, it felt normal, and I love doing The One Show as well.”

During his playing career, Jenas spent eight years at Tottenham and made 155 appearances for the club.

He also played for Nottingham Forest and Newcastle and won 21 caps for England.

Jenas left Spurs in 2013 and moved to his final club QPR.

However, due to a serious knee injury in 2014, he played his last professional match that year, though he retired from football completely in 2016.

That is when he transitioned into a career in the media, doing punditry for the likes of ITV Sport and BT Sport, before joining the BBC.

LADbible Group has contacted Jermaine Jenas' representatives for comment.
