Nadine Caridi, the ex-wife of Jordan Belfort – better known to movie audiences as the Wolf of Wall Street – has lifted the lid on how accurate the movie was when depicting their relationship.
The film has been out for nine years now, so we don’t need to give you a spoiler alert on this front – but just know that the truth of the matter isn’t exactly like Martin Scorcese filmed it, according to the woman who inspired the character nicknamed ‘The Duchess’.

Portrayed by Margot Robbie in the film under the name Naomi Lapaglia, Caridi was married to Jordan Belfort – himself played by Leonardo DiCaprio – during the time that the film spans.
Of course, the film wasn’t supposed to be a true-to-life depiction of Caridi, but the comparisons are still evident.
Over the time of their marriage, Belfort embarked on a career defined by drugs, women, and white collar crime.
It didn’t end well for him, as he ended up spending a number of years in prison.

However, upon his release, he wrote the book that became the film and suddenly he has become a bit of a cult hero, despite not coming across as the nicest bloke in the world during the movie.
Anyway, since her split from Belfort, Caridi has moved on with her life significantly, and is able to reflect on some of the things that formed the plot of the movie.
On TikTok, she said: “So, can you imagine having a movie made about your life, about your love life, that was a Greek tragedy?

“It’s not fun, but guess what – I had that happen. How accurate was the movie?
“I think that if you look at it through Jordan’s lens it was really accurate.
“I think that if you look at it through my lens it wasn’t, and that makes sense because that was actually how our marriage was.
“However, I went to therapy, I became a therapist, actually got my PhD, and became an expert in relational trauma.

“And so, I am able to discern his truth, my truth, and everything in between, so stay and watch."
She’s right too – Caridi went from her life with Belfort to living in California with – she claims – no support from her husband.
Then, she enrolled at the Pacifica Graduate Institute and earned her Masters in counselling as well as a PhD in Somatic and Depth psychology.

She’s also remarried and is – as she rightly suggested – a relationship expert.
According to her YouTube channel Dr Nae’s Talking Bar, she shows off ‘people who thrived after overcoming challenging painful experiences and demonstrate how adversity transformed them, enrich their lives, and help them reach their unique potential.’
