How often should you replace your doona?

A quick upgrade guide to make sure you're not being gross.

Doonas are the ultimate cuddle companions. They're there for movie marathons, epic Netflix (and chill) binges, and those nights when adulting feels extra overwhelming. But just like that trusty pair of jeans with a questionable stain (we all have one!), your doona might be due for an upgrade.

Think about it: You wash your sheets regularly (hopefully!), but your doona? It gets tossed around, absorbs questionable amounts of sweat, and witnesses...well, let's just say things your grandma wouldn't want to hear about. So, how long can you hold onto your beloved (and possibly questionable) doona before it's time to say goodbye?

Most bedding and fabric experts recommend replacing your doonas every five years. But not all doonas are created equal. Here are the tell-tale signs your doona is begging for retirement (and a good wash) earlier than the five-year lifespan:

It's lost its loft. Remember that luxurious, cloud-like feeling when you first got your doona? Yeah, that. If it's feeling flat and flimsy, it's not doing its job of keeping you warm and comfy anymore.

It's become a snoozefest. Your doona should be keeping you cosy, not making you sweat buckets. If you wake up feeling like you wrestled a heat wave in your sleep, it's time for a lighter option.

The sniffles are real. Do you find yourself constantly sniffling and sneezing under the covers? It could be your doona harbouring dust mites and allergens. Time to say bye-bye!

It looks like its seen some stuff. Rips, tears, and leaks are not a good look for a doona. Plus, they can be uncomfortable and make it harder to get a good night's rest.

The filling is clumping. A good doona should have an even filling distribution. If yours looks lumpy and uneven, it's definitely past its prime.

So, you've decided it's time for a doona divorce. Ahead, we’ve rounded up the best doonas on Amazon to help you find your new sleep companion.
