In today's edition of news you would never willingly admit to anyone, a man in Spain was awarded £41,000 in compensation after being left with a devastating 30-hour erection.
Now, stop laughing for a moment, or making jokes about this being a 'dream situation', as it turns out that being stood to attention for over a day can actually be pretty detrimental to your health. Which is exactly what the unnamed man from Albaida, near Valencia, discovered.

According to a report from The Olive Press, the 36-year-old man has successfully sued his local hospital over the treatment he received for a pretty grim case of priapism back in 2020. Also known as painful erection, the NHS explains the condition as a situation where the blood remains in the penis and cannot drain. Again, jokes aside, this condition is no laughing matter, as untreated priapism can cause permanent damage to your member.
Explaining the potential severity of priapism, Jorge Sanchez - a urologist who was not involved in the case - told Spanish media (via JOE): "Four or five hours of priapism can cause damage to the penis tissue and 20 hours later the risk is higher.
"If the erection continues, the only solution is break two tubes in the penis called the corpora cavernosa that fill with blood to make it stiff during an erection. If they are ruptured the patient will no longer be able to have an erection and will require a prothesis."
Which is certainly a thought which would make your blood run cold.

Following four hours of rock-hard agony, the claimant was referred to his local hospital to seek assistance - however, doctors delayed treatment and sent him home.
After 20 hours in excruciating pain, the man and his wife made a second visit to his local Ontinyent Hospital, and this time, he was discharged with just a preferential urology appointment despite showing no signs of improvement.
It would take a third trip to the hospital, with the couple returning just minutes after leaving, before doctors decided to refer him to another nearby facility - Lluis Alcanyis Hospital in Xativa - where doctors finally diagnosed him with priapism and a fever.

Unfortunately for him, this was not the end of the man's quest to soften the stubborn hard-on. Once his fever was brought under control, the man underwent an operation to have a malleable penile prosthetic inserted into his member, a treatment which is reserved for when all other solutions fail.
The surgery went without incident, but the man's disastrous run of bad luck was not over yet, as the prosthetic then fell out just days later, with the Valencian Community Legal Advice Council stating this was due to 'poor placement'.
You may at this point be wondering 'How can this story get any worse?' Well, it does. Due to complications of the misplaced implant, the man was left with permanent erectile dysfunction, pain in his left leg, as well as a loss of sensitivity and strength in his right arm.

However, there is one small silver lining to the whole case, as the man has since been awarded £41,000 for medical malpractice, while his wife received a further £4,200 for 'moral' damages. This will be paid out to the couple in the following days.
Was the eventual payout worth the stress and permanent erectile damage? We don't think so.
