Brit Benidorm expat shares warning to holidaymakers planning to watch football in bars this summer

You don't want to become a victim of this

Brits love going on holiday to enjoy some beautiful weather, experience the local culture and drink cheap pints in bars until the early hours.

When you need a break from going to the pub to watch the footy in England, why not fly to a foreign country and do the same? Well, it turns out there's a pretty good reason to avoid watching your favourite team in Benidorm bars this summer, according to a British expat living in the Spanish city.

While some Spanish locals are sick of the sight of drunken tourists, Benidorm is seemingly still welcoming Brits with open arms.

There are plenty of things to be wary of when going on holiday, and that's even before you arrive, with airlines potentially fining those who are late or losing your luggage if it's a certain colour. Not to mention the changing passports.

But once you're finally sat in the sun, with a cold pint in hand and the soothing tones of Gary Neville in your ear, you can finally relax, right? Wrong.

Taking to her 'Benidorm Stuff' YouTube channel, British expat Lucy has suggested that sports bars are the ideal hunting ground for local pickpockets and talks about the 'hugger-mugger' method in which someone might nick your wallet.

She said: "Thieves will be pretending to celebrate along with other fans. They'll often have a team shirt on to blend in and whilst everybody is bouncing up and down to celebrate a goal, they'll be relieving you of your personal items without you even realising."

So while Manchester United fans who have nothing other than plans of a massive new ground to celebrate right now might be safe, you might want to avoid drinking too much and jumping up and down with strangers, as they may well be after your cash.

Lucy added: "Be extra vigilant in bustling bars, around markets and high streets - anywhere there's a crowd, there's likely to be a few rogues lurking and pickpocketing."

It's not just football fans that need to be wary as Lucy said you should also avoid taking your phone out if someone asks for directions.

And definitely don't go down an alleyway with someone you don't know, as according to Lucy, some people pretend to be sex workers so they can pull your trousers down and steal your stuff.

You've only got yourself to blame if you fall for that one.
