Many people, whether they’re cruise-goers themselves or just your average Joe, will be curious about the lives of cruise workers.
Working on a cruise ship often means more or less living on one, bringing with it all the benefits and negatives of life at sea.
One particular worker though has spoken out on YouTube about a key rule she broke in her decade working on cruise ships.

Lucy, who runs the ‘Cruising as a Crew’ YouTube channel, posted a video this week titled I Was Crew on a Cruise Ship - Here’s What REALLY Happens with Passengers.
Within this she talks about how it is banned for crew mates to have sex with passengers, though this isn’t the rule she broke.

She discusses the fact that crew mates are not allowed to sleep with passengers, pointing to stories where it had gone wrong.
She stated there had been a situation in which her coworker gave a passenger his phone number after a ‘friendly connection’, something which is also banned.

She said however: “She began blowing up his phone constantly, it became clear to him that she had developed feelings for him and that to her it wasn’t just a friendly connection.
“At that moment he was like ‘oh my god, why did I give her my number’.”
That is not to say that Lucy has never herself exchanged information with a passenger – with this being the rule she broke.

She said that in her time at sea she had seen this go sideways ‘so many times’, and that it was ‘not worth it’, but admitted she was a hypocrite on this specific point.

She went on to say when discussing whether she’d broken the rules: “Yeah, I was on board for ten years, I met a lot of people.”
While she clarified that she had not slept with any passengers, she said: “I did technically break the rules, I am still great friends with some people I met on cruise ships when I was a crew member, and they were a passenger.
“I have exchanged numbers, I have exchanged social media, I have accepted gifts, I have even visited a few passengers that I met on board.”

She reiterated though that she had never broken the ‘ultimate rule’, explaining why.
She said it was ‘not because she’s a saint’, but added: “I’m just not wired that way, the thought of risking my job for something that fleeting it’s just to something that would ever be worth it to me.”
All in all, if that’s the only rule you’ve broken after ten years working on cruises, she basically is a saint.
