Woman faces arrest after having heart attack by pool on holiday

Collette Robinson has been left with a five-figure medical bill after an issue with her insurance policy

A 58-year-old mother could be facing jail time after suffering a medical emergency overseas.

British holidaymaker Collette Robinson was enjoying her time with a friend in Marrakesh, Morocco, earlier this month.

The pair were staying at the Valeria Madina Club Resort, when she suddenly fell ill and began throwing up while sat by the swimming pool.

Collette was rushed to the Clinique Averroès hospital, where her health was assessed and it was found that she had a heart attack.

She was fitted with a stent after the incident on 11 February, but now the mother-of-four is stuck in hospital with a pile of medical bills.

Collette must pay £22,000 for her bills or face arrest, and while she and her son, Jack, have offered to pay them monthly, doctors have threatened that she will be in trouble if she can't offer the funds upfront.

The 30-year-old is worried about his mum, who is in the hospital alone, explaining: "I've compared the prices in Morocco and I've never seen anyone pay that much for this.

"She keeps having the threats of getting arrested.

"I have been in tears this whole time, normally you can fix things but I can't fix this one," he painfully admitted.

The Manchester-born former pub landlady was on a ten-day getaway before being put in the private hospital.

Collette had a travel insurance policy in the past, but failed to update it after she suffered a heart attack last year, so she must now fork the £22,000 out herself.

While she's hopeful about recovering soon, she can't leave without paying her hospital bills, as he added that she 'is on the mend'.

"She used to travel quite a lot and she has a travel insurance policy where she has always got cover," he explained, saying that he doesn't 'know why' she forgot to state that she had a heart attack last September.

He suggested that she 'didn't think about it', though now, he is choosing not to see his mum in hospital as he doesn't want to waste any money that could go towards her £22,000 total.

The 30-year-old said that he'll only head over if he knows he 'can go and take her home', explaining that he can only be there for a week anyway.

Jack revealed: "I received messages from my mum but she removed them, so I think she didn't want to worry me.

"Then I phoned her the next day and she said 'no' and explained she was in the hospital."
