Woman explains exactly what happens inside a spicy cruise’s ‘red room’ where people share partners

Essential information if you're wondering whether a spicy cruise is for you

Exactly what happens inside a spicy cruise's 'red room' has been revealed by one woman who has been on the holiday twice in her life.

It's a very different kind of cruise ship holiday. And it is, as the name suggests, firmly an adults-only environment where there is a big focus on the swinging lifestyle.

While not exclusively for people belonging to that community, they offer the chance for couples to swap sexual partners on the open seas.

One company that offers these holidays is Cancun-based company Temptation Cruises, which has gone somewhat viral on social media with passengers offering their firsthand experiences of life on a cruise with a heavy focus on swinging.

Intimacy coach and hypnotherapist, Kate Shelor, has travelled with Temptation Cruises twice, giving people a sneak peek of what it is like over on her TikTok channel.

Speaking to LADbible, Las Vegas-based Kate revealed exactly what goes on when it comes to the swinging side of these cruises and how people go about having a menage a trois or quatre.

Reality of a spicy cruise

"Temptation Cruises are not specifically for swingers," Kate told LADbible.

"There is a large contingent of swingers on the cruise but it's not hosted by a swingers group. There are cruises that are very swinger forward where everyone is in the lifestyle.

"Temptation Cruises are a mix of people who are into something like that. They may want to have threesomes, foursomes, or more-somes.

"And people who are in a couple and they just want to have a sexy vacation but they're not planning on playing with other couples. You can be topless in certain areas, you know, have that kind of trip. The dynamics are a little different on the ship than in a swingers club. Not everybody is looking for swapping or anything like that.

"Some of the same dynamics of course exist across both. The cruises offer different kind of events. There's pool time which can be topless and a lot of people are having drinks, all piled in the pool, there's a DJ. You're meeting people in a more intimate way, it's a great ice breaker for a lot of people."

The 'red room'

Temptation Cruises offered something called its exclusive 'red room', which it advertises as a 'friendly space for those looking to experiment with their sexuality in a space where freedom reigns'.

Kate says: "Every night they host something called the 'red room'. It's hosted by Temptation with their staff who work the red room.

"They bring all their own people and they will choose a large space on the cruise ship for this and they bring in brand new mattresses. You'll see them loaded on to the ship as you're boarding. As well as tonnes of clean sheets.

"They will make this room up every night with tonnes of mattresses on the floor, plastic covers, and then sheets on top. There's towels and water. It looks sexy with sexy lighting."

'Red room' rules and what's inside it

"On the cruise ships it is couples only unless you are coming in with a couple. So a single person can come in with a couple but they don't just wander in on their own," Kate says.

"There will be staff at the doors. Once inside you will find a mixture of things happening. You will find people just having a drink and taking in the vibe. Hanging out and watching. That's something you'll have to be comfortable with; there are people who just do that.

"Some couples will only do that because they think it is kind of exciting to just be in the room. Some people will come in with another couple that they might have met at the pool party and they'll say 'do you want to meet at the red room tonight?'.

"They'll come in and get on a mattress together or two mattresses next to each other. And then there's people who wander around and ask you if you want to play. So there's different dynamics.

Upfront conversations

If somebody has already been in the community, they'll be upfront with their conversations about what could happen.

"There will be a lot of 'are you going to the red room tonight, do you want to go together?'," Kate explains.

"Then there will be an upfront conversation - 'are you interested in playing?' is what they will ask. Then there will be questions about going 'full swap' or 'soft swap'. It's really important to learn the lingo if you're a new person to the lifestyle.

"Understand you're going to get no's but by having these conversations it really simplifies the process. I wish the regular dating community behaved similarly because it's very upfront... they know exactly what is happening when they get there.

"If you are new and didn't meet someone at the pool party... you go and have a drink and if you connect with someone, you just have to get bold and ask. I wish there was a much simpler way to do it that felt like it wasn't scary but you say 'hey we think you're really hot, would you be interested in playing?' is what you will say."
