A loyal dog waited outside his owner's house for two weeks - not realising they had abandoned him.
Yes, if current affairs aren't quite managing to bum you out enough, how about a bit of adorable pooch-abandonment for your consideration? Stick with it though and it will be worth it, I swear.
The dog in question stood guard on his doorstep in Florida, USA, for a whole fortnight, waiting for his owner to return - but they never did.

Fortunately, neighbours noticed his plight and Everglades Angels Dog Rescue took him in, providing him with food, water, shelter, a full medical examination, and some much need TLC.
Oh, and they also named him Salvatore, which I think you'll agree is a nice touch.
A spokesperson for the dog shelter said: "Salvatore was left behind when his family moved away. He waited by his house, believing they would come back for him.
"Neighbours told us he was a good family pet, especially with their two children."

Poor guy.
Naturally, being unfamiliar with his new surroundings and missing his owner, it took time for Salvatore to relax after being taken into the rescue.
"Aside from the sadness in his eyes, Salvatore is a handsome dog," the spokesperson added. "An animal's eyes have the power to speak a great language.

"Salvatore was very nervous but not aggressive when he was finally brought to the rescue.
"It took a lot of patience, love, and dedication to get this dog to understand that we were there to help him.
"Sadly he was still holding out for his family. His family let him down. We will not."

But I promised you this grim tale would have a pay-off if you stuck with it, and I'm pleased to report that Salvatore is homeless no more.
After spending about two months at the shelter, the handsome hound has been taken in by a new family, who lost their dog last year.
So not only has Salvatore got a new family, but a family has also got a stunning new dog. Win bloody win.
A spokesperson for the shelter told the Mirror: "Salvatore went to his forever home on Sunday. The wonderful thing is he went to a former adopter family whose big American bulldog passed last year. A wonderful family for a wonderful dog."
