A flight attendant has shared why she thinks you should always leave a shoe in a hotel safe, having picked up a fair few tips and tricks through travelling for work.
Esther Sturrus (@esthersturrus) works as a flight attendant for Dutch airline KLM, and has travelled all over the world with the airline.
While regularly jetting about, she’s gained great insight for holidaymakers, and how they can make their lives better when abroad or staying away from home.

This includes what Sturrus calls ‘hotel hacks’, having collated her six top tips into a video that has attracted more than 1.2 million views and 50,000 likes since it was posted a few months back.
One of the best tricks she recommends in the clip also just so happens to be one of the simplest – and one that you’ll likely turn to every time you’re in a hotel.
Basically, Sturrus believes you should always leave a shoe in a hotel safe. Bear with us...

She thinks if you put your shoe in the safe alongside your valuable items, you won't forget it, as you’ll obviously need both shoes to leave the room.
Sturrus said: “Worried about forgetting something from your locker? Put your heel or shoe in it and you won't forget it.”
Of course, if you’ve brought more than one pair of shoes with you, it could pose a bit of a problem and you could end up leaving the room with three trainers.

However, the premise works for anything you know you’ll have to put on or use before checking out, whether it’s a coat or a toothbrush.
Other tricks Sturrus shared in the video included pinning curtains together with a clothes hanger in the areas where there are gaps – genius for anyone who likes it nice and dark while they’re sleeping.
Another idea involves using shower caps to cover the bottoms of shoes to avoid your clothes and other items getting dirty when you pack them in your suitcase.

“Shower cap is also very handy for your remote control,” she added.
“Those things are dirtyyyy.”
And what do you do if your international charger breaks? Fear not, simply plug the USB end into the TV in your hotel room and you should find you can charge up nicely.
Many TikTokers were impressed by Sturrus’ trips, with one commenting: “Heel shoe hack great idea.”
