Grimes and Elon Musk’s daughter’s name has been changed from Exa Dark Sideræl to Y

Grimes and Elon Musk’s daughter’s name has been changed from Exa Dark Sideræl to Y

The singer says she initially wanted the newborn to be called ? but the state wouldn't allow that.

Grimes has reveals she’s changed her and Elon Musk’s daughter’s name from Exa Dark Sideræl.

And no, they haven't changed it to Sarah, Ruth or Ava.

The singer recently shared a rare photo of her one-year-old daughter alongside a photo of herself, with the two wearing matching red jumpsuits and green/yellow hair.

The mother-of-two captioned the photo ‘Y C’, seemingly debuting her child’s new name.

She added: “(Normally we post her for her privacy but she’s fairly unrecognizable here since she's channeling Goku or smthn).”

Grimes also elaborated on her daughter’s name in the comments, explaining her name is now ‘Y’ pronounced ‘Why’.

Are you keeping up?

“She’s Y now, or 'Why?' or just '?' (But the government won’t recognize that)," she wrote.

"Curiosity, the eternal question, .. and such.”

It comes after the two changed their son’s name from X Æ A-12 to X Æ A-Xii.

They initially wanted to name their son X Æ A-12 (pronounced Ex Ash A Twelve) but changed the spelling to X Æ A-Xii, substituting the Roman numerals symbolising ’12’ to comply with the state’s law.

In 2020, the Canadian musician explained the reason behind the - uhh..eclectic - name.

“‘X’ stands for the ‘unknowable variable’; ‘Æ’ is her ‘elven spelling’ of artificial intelligence and/or love; and ‘A-12’ is the precursor to her and Musk’s favourite aircraft, SR-17. ‘No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent,” she wrote.

Last year, the couple quietly welcomed their second child, which was made public in a Vanity Fair article.

After writer Devin Gordon noted he could hear ‘multiple cries’ while interviewing the artist, he asked her blankly if she had another baby.

To which she responded: “I’m not at liberty to speak on these things.

“Whatever is going on with family stuff, I just feel like kids need to stay out of it, and X is just out there. I mean, I think E is really seeing him as a protégé and bringing him to everything and stuff.… X is out there. His situation is like that.”

In the same interview, Grimes said of her relationship with the SpaceX CEO: "I would probably refer to him as my boyfriend, but we're very fluid."

However, following the interview's publication in March, the couple announced they had since broken up.
