Terrifying difference of what happens when you smoke vs vaping shown in insane video

The video shows the difference 'vaping for a month and smoking tobacco cigarettes for a month' has on your lungs

A terrifying simulation of what smoking can do to your lungs in comparison to vaping is making smokers give it up for good.

However, I think by now we all know how bad smoking is for you.

Stats from 2019 suggest that 15 per cent of all deaths (74,600) in the UK were attributed to the habit, according to the NHS.

What does the government say about smoking?

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has suggested that 'cigarettes remain the most dangerous consumer product known to man'.

In a 2021 post, they wrote that 'it had been estimated that half of lifelong smokers would die as a result, but a 2015 study suggests that the figure might be as high as two thirds'.

"Smokers are much more likely than non-smokers to get a wide range of diseases including respiratory diseases, cardiovascular diseases and a wide range of cancers," the UKHSA said.

Next month's disposable vape ban

The UK government has made the decision to ban the sale and supply of single-use vapes in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland from 1 June 2025.

It comes after the proportion of 11 to 17-year-olds who reported using vapes has increased from 14 percent in 2020 to approximately 20 percent in 2023, according to Action on Smoking and Health.

While vaping is considered less harmful than smoking, it still poses several health risks such as nicotine addiction, lung damage, and potential harm to heart and brain health.

What was the smoking vs vaping experiment?

YouTuber Chris Notap shared a video back in 2019 that showed the difference of 'what's going into your body' when you smoke or vape for a month.

Notap notes that 'the one and only reason to vape is to help you get off of smoking deadly cigarettes'.

In the shot clip, the content creator appears to use an inhaling machine which ‘smokes’ the device and cigarettes into the dome which is filled with cotton balls.

The darker the colour changes in the cotton balls indicates how harmful it is.

The results - differences between smoking and vaping on the lungs

Displaying what a month's-worth of smoking looks like, the cigarettes immediately begin to leave a brown, sticky residue inside of the dome.

Shockingly, the vape smoke left a white cloud, with only a mild discolouration in the exhaling tube, compared to the deep brown of the smoking one.

Notap explained in the video's description: "The black stuff is called tar. Heavy accumulation of tar in the hoses showed up after only 10 packs.

"Tar from the next 20 packs overflowed and got sucked into the pump. It eventually ruined the pump.

"Lungs do self clean to take care of dust and debris from normal breathing in the environment.

"The smell inside the smoking dome at the end was vile. I felt quite ill afterwards. Can't imagine how a smoker feels on a daily basis."

In his video, Notap also encouraged those who didn't smoke 'not to vape', and that vaping should only be used as a way to wean yourself off nicotine altogether as 'anything you put in your lungs is bad for you'.

Commenting on the video, one person said: "I’m 39 years old and have smoked since I was 14, Sir you just scared some sense into me. Thank you!"

"I’ve smoked way too long. Recently I’ve been cutting back and want to stop smoking. Now I WILL stop!! Now!!" another wrote.

"Okay I think I’m gonna stop smoking cigarettes," a third added.
