Aussie Politician Sparks Horror For Comparing Daniel Andrews To Hitler

The meme has been dubbed 'indecent' and 'repulsive'.

A Victorian Liberal MP has come under fire for comparing Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews to Adolf Hitler.

Bernie Finn posted a mocked up image of the state's leader on Facebook over the weekend that photoshopped Mr Andrews' head onto a portrait of the Nazi leader.

The doctored photo added an ABC logo armband, a Victoria logo over the breast and gave the Premier a Hitler moustache.

The conservative MP wrote: "The Despot tells us we'll be free - then rushes into parliament a Bill giving himself total control over almost everything.

"Victorians' freedom has not been under this sort of threat since World War II. It's time for us all to fight again!"

It comes after the Victorian Premier proposed new laws that would supersede the state of emergency powers and allow whoever is in charge to declare a pandemic in new ways.

Mr Finn quickly deleted the post after copping a severe amount of backlash for it, however thanks to the power of the internet, users were able to record it.

It's not the first time the MP has been pulled up for something he posted on social media.

He came under fire earlier this year for asking where space debris should hit in Australia and suggested it land on The Project host Waleed Aly, the ABC, Daniel Andrews or Greens Senator Lydia Thorpe.

Opposition leader Matthew Guy warned his MPs to stop stuffing around with memes on Facebook and get back to work.

"It sounds, from what I'd heard, quite ridiculous. All MPs need to focus on their jobs," he said.

When asked what he thought of having to monitor the social media habits of the politicians within his ranks, he didn't hold back.

"I think you can probably see the look of that on my face," he said.

Mr Guy said he would 'deal' with Mr Finn and make sure slurs like this don't happen again.

However, campaigners say this is the latest in a long line of anti-Semitic problems that have arisen in Australia recently and it's extremely concerning.

Chairman of the Anti-Defamation Commission Dr Dvir Abramovich said Mr Finn deserves to have the book thrown at him for this.

"I shouldn't have to say this, but comparing Premier Daniel Andrews to the monstrous Hitler is indecent and repulsive," Dr Abramovich said.

"I'm fed up with public figures weaponising the Holocaust to make a point and to beat down those they disagree with. I have continuously registered my disgust at the manipulation and distortion of the Holocaust for political aims, and this occasion warrants a full-throated condemnation.

"While people are certainly entitled to express their views about the proposed pandemic laws by the Victorian government, it is beyond outrageous to compare them to the monstrous laws enacted by Hitler's Third Reich or to claim that the laws are in any way similar to the 'Final Solution' that led to death camps, such as Auschwitz, where men, women and children were gassed to death."
