If you’re expecting to welcome a baby next year, there’s a whole new generation name you’re going to have to learn about.

We’re all pretty used to hearing the words Boomers, Millennials and Gen Z, but what do we call this new brood that’s set to take the world by storm?

From tomorrow, we’ll officially have a whole new Gen to raise, and that means that a fitting name needs to be created too.

Well, good news- the name has already been chosen and people ‘can’t believe’ it.

Considering we have a whole timeline of generations with names that refer to their societal and communal standing, surely this new one will follow suit.

We’ve had Lost Generation, Greatest Generation, Silent Generation, Baby boomers, Generation X, Millennials, Generation Z, Generation Alpha, and now…Generation Beta.

Mark McCrindle wrote about a lot of the generation terms and gave us all a great definition of what to expect from Gen Beta.

The social researcher wrote in a blog post: “While Generation Alpha has experienced the rise of smart technology and artificial intelligence, Generation Beta will live in an era where AI and automation are fully embedded in everyday life—from education and workplaces to healthcare and entertainment.”

Apparently, the new Gen will be born between 2025 and 2039, with McCrindle noting that by the end of this time, Generation Beta and Generation Y and Gen Z ‘will make up 16 per cent of the global population’.

They’ll also make up 19 per cent of the world’s workforce within the same year.

Astonishingly, many of this new generation ‘will live to see the 22nd Century.’

People on Twitter were going insane about it.

So, what can we expect from them?

Apparently, we can expect quite a bit of change for the better.

McCrindle wrote: “Generation Beta represents the dawn of a new era.

“They will grow up in a world shaped by breakthroughs in technology, evolving social norms, and an increasing focus on sustainability and global citizenship.”

He went on to say that these ‘Beta babies’ will most likely be the ‘first generation to experience autonomous transportation at scale, wearable health technologies, and immersive virtual environments as standard aspects of daily life’.

I’m pretty jealous of that.

Because they’ll grow up with AI and automation, they might be more technologically savvy than any other generation to date.

He added: “Their formative years will be marked by a greater emphasis on personalisation — AI algorithms will tailor their learning, shopping, and social interactions in ways we can only begin to imagine today.”

Jason Dorsey, the author of Zconomy: How Gen Z Will Change the Future of Business — and What to Do About It gave some insights into how the generation will grow up differently than Gen Z.

He told NBC that they’ll likely be using smart devices and AI and they’ll also depend on these things to solve problems.

However, they’ll also have a strong stance on climate change as ‘we will likely have Gen Z as elected officials when Gen Beta is old enough to vote'.

He said: “Climate change will continue to be a really big deal for them.”

You can also expect them to be ‘more globally minded, community-focused, and collaborative than ever before.

They sound like cool folk.
