Pete Davidson has thrown down the gauntlet to PETA after they criticised him for purchasing a dog instead of adopting.
PETA aren't exactly known for their tactful approach to their causes.
Getting under people's skin is a common tactic employed by the controversial animal rights group, including a 'sexist' campaign which featured a bikini-clad woman with cuts of meat drawn out on her back.

Now comedian Pete Davidson has been the latest person in the sights of the controversial organisation. Davidson purchased a dog after his mother's two-year-old puppy suddenly passed away, and claims he needed to buy a specific breed because of his allergies.
However, PETA hit out at Davidson, saying that he should have adopted a dog instead of buying one. They also highlighted that there are dogs of the breed that he adopted available in their shelters.
The organisation's Senior VP of Cruelty Investigations, Daphna Nachminovitch, issued a statement after Davidson adopted the puppy.

She said: "It's tragic that Pete didn’t seek out a borough-born mutt from a city animal shelter, because a scrappy New Yorker with charm, personality, and unconventional handsomeness could have been his perfect match."
PETA added: "Since shelters in New York and across the country are overflowing with homeless animals, PETA urges Pete to show some big heart energy by adopting, not shopping, in the future."
Davidson was not impressed by the statement, leaving a furious voicemail directed at Nachminovitch.

He said: "Hi my name is Pete. This message is for Daphna. Thank you so much for making comments publicly that I didn't adopt a dog. I just want to let you know I'm severely allergic to dogs so I have to get a specific breed. I'm only not allergic to cavapoos and those kinds of dogs. And my mom's f**king dog who was two years old died a week prior, and we're all so sad.
"So I had to get a specific dog. So why don't you do your research before you create news stories for people because you're a boring, tired f**ck? F**ck you and suck my d**k."
Davidson has since admitted that he made a 'poor choice of words' in the message. He told TMZ: "I haven't seen my mom and sister cry like that in over 20 years. I was trying to cheer up my family. I was already upset that the store had filmed me without my permission or acknowledgement.
"Then this organization (PETA) made a public example of us, making our grieving situation worse. I am upset. It was a poor choice of words. I shouldn't have said what I said, but I am not sorry for standing up for myself and my family."
