Police have released footage of some of the worst driving they’ve seen in a bid to highlight the importance of road safety in the UK.
Cumbria Police shared several dashcam clips showing reckless moves, from motorists on the wrong side of the road to drivers racing through red lights.

Posting the compilation on Twitter, they wrote: “We want to make Cumbria’s roads safer by educating road users to try and change behaviour and prosecuting those that take risks.”
The first video shows a huge silver car driving over the payment and layby of a road in order to overtake backed up traffic.
Next up is a Range Rover pulling a move that could’ve ended very badly after it drove on the wrong side of the road and narrowly missed another vehicle – just so it can overtake the car in front.
This was followed by a similar dashcam moment of a black van dangerously overtaking a car by driving in the wrong lane.

Another heart-stopping clip shows a silver Range Rover narrowly missing a motorist after driving in the middle of a country road.
The fifth clip sees a white Mercedes van driving between two lanes in order to beat oncoming traffic.
The red light jumper is next, followed by a driver forced to halt to a stop as a speeding blue BMW races past vehicles on the wrong side of the road.

Perhaps the most shocking clip follows, showing a silver Ford jumping into the wrong lane and coming just inches away from an oncoming van.
A similar moment arrives after - we’re seeing a bit of a theme here - before the montage finishes with a man driving a van through a street as he looks at his phone.
The footage shows how impatient people can be on the roads, taking risky moves just to get to their destination a few seconds earlier.

Overtaking traffic by driving on the wrong side of the road, using a phone while driving and rushing through red lights are just some of the reasons hundreds of people die from crashes each year.
According to National Statistics, there were an estimated 1,390 reported road deaths in the year ending June 2021.
And while this is a decrease of 11 percent compared to the year ending June 2020, it still shows just how fatal reckless driving can be.

Cumbria Police has urged people to get in touch if they are concerned about anything residents see on the roads by submitting footage via its website here.
Anyone outside of the area can do the same by contacting their local police department.
