The country’s best surfers are about to go head-to-head this March — here’s what you need to know

Watch the best of the best battle it out on the Gold Coast.

There’s no better way to farewell summer than to spend a day at one of Australia’s most iconic beaches, watching the best surfers in the country go head-to-head in an action-packed tournament.

Well, with the help of the good folks at Jim Beam and Surfing Australia, you can get the opportunity to do just that at the Hyundai Australian Boardriders Battle presented by NRMA Insurance.

Over a ripping weekend in March, the ABB Grand Final will see a colossal 42 boardriding clubs from around the country take on Burleigh Heads in the Gold Coast to see which club will come out on top.

Last year, 30,000 fun-loving spectators turned out to see the one-of-a-kind event which, ultimately, is more than just a surfing comp — it’s a jam-packed weekend out with plenty to do outside of surfing, too. Frankly, it’s enough to rally the boys together for a weekend away, if you ask me.

Not only do you get the chance to watch some of the country’s best — including some major surfing legends — hit the water, but you also get a chance to check out the fun stuff to help keep the good vibes flowing. DJs? Check. Food trucks? Check. Jim Beam Bar? FREE event? Check check.

Seriously, picture it now — sipping on an ice-cold Jim Beam & Cola overlooking one of the country’s most iconic beaches with your mates, cheering on local surfing clubs soundtracked by summer-ready beats? The Grand Final might be happening in March, but at least for this weekend, summer’s not over just yet.

Jim Beam’s part in the event is an ode to surfing culture — and the good vibes the community is all about. There’ll be a Kombi DJ spinning tracks from the arvo into sunset and a 20 ft container service bar where you can view head to the top for a better view. But, just in case you can’t see, Jim Beam is also providing a colossal screen to show the broadcast of the Hyundai ABB GF presented by NRMA Insurance. On top of all that, you can take a geez at the Nev Hyman board museum and admire all the most famous boards the legendary boardmaker has crafted over the years.

Speaking of boards crafted by Hyman, the ABB GF will also see the public debut of the Together Board — built in partnership with Jim Beam — which is the world’s biggest surfable board. You can get up close with it when it’s not in the water being ridden by the pros. Trust me — the bad boy is HUGE.

Find all the key ABB GF details below, get the lads together and prepare for a weekend all about sun, surf and only the sickest of vibes.
