Usually when you see someone getting interviewed live on telly, they’re on their best behaviour – even if they’re having a laugh, they’re careful of what they say.
And the same goes for the interviewer, they might be fun about it but they’re doing a job. So, you don’t usually expect to see someone absolutely smashed chatting live on TV.
But people were left baffled last night (1 May) after seeing Jamie Carragher do a post-match interview ‘eight pints deep’.

The former Liverpool player was chatting with Jadon Sancho in Germany following his team’s win against Paris Saint-Germain.
The English winger currently plays for Borussia Dortmund on loan from Manchester United and headed to chat with CBS Sports, where he was joined by Carragher.
But before the pundit chatted to him, he was asked by his colleagues in the studio: “Are you sober enough to do this Jamie?”

And, wearing a Dortmund scarf, the star revealed: “Well you know what, that’s actually a good point.
“I haven’t had too much to eat, I had a cheeseburger at about half 2 when I got two the hotel… It might explain why I’m slurring my words because I’ve had about eight pints in the yellow wall.”
Carragher went on to call the Dortmund fans his ‘new family’ saying ‘we all look after each other’.

The presenters in the studio were in stitches as the pundit put his arm round Sancho and excitedly chatted to him about being in the Yellow Wall (the section of ultra Dortmund fans).
“That was one of the best experiences of my life,” Carragher said.

And the pundit may have mentioned the fact that he was ‘in the Yellow Wall’ quite the number of times as he kept lifting the mic for Sancho.
As fans on X joked: “Sorry where did Jamie watch the match?” and nicknamed him: “Jamie ‘yellow wall’ Carragher.”
Another said: “Jaden, do you have a moment to speak about the Yellow Wall?”

One also put: “Find someone who talks about you the same way Jamie Carragher talks about the yellow wall.”
Others joked that Carragher was ‘plastered on live TV’ as they said the ‘lights on and no one’s home’.
Some called the pundit ‘unhinged’ as they said the interview was ‘comedy gold’.
There were some fans who did say Sancho might have been ‘uncomfortable’ during the interview but most said it was ‘absolutely class’ and asked: “Can we give [Carragher] a few bevs before all his TV appearances?”
