Jay Slater's family have travelled out to Tenerife to join the search

The search continues for British teenager Jay Slater, who went missing on the island of Tenerife recently.

The 19-year-old had been there with friends to attend the New Rave Generation festival before he parted ways with his mates to stay out on Sunday (16 June) night with a new group.

Early the next morning the Oswaldtwistle teenager called one of his friends to say he was lost in the mountains and was in 'the middle of nowhere'.

Jay said in the call that his phone was on one percent battery, and that's the last that has been heard of him.

Two days later and search efforts are ongoing, with Jay's family flying out to Tenerife to join the efforts.

One of the teen's friends said he was walking back to his accommodation on the south side of the island from a house he'd stayed at on the Sunday night.

However, this walk is a 10 hour journey and Jay's mum Debbie thinks her son may have become 'a bit disoriented when it comes to distances'.

Jay's last known location was the National Park of Teno, a popular hiking spot in Tenerife.

A Facebook group dedicated to getting people involved in the search for Jay posted a video of the teen which had come from Snapchat.

In the video, he is seen in a grey t-shirt with green stripes on the shoulders and is carrying a black bag, and if he was wearing this on Sunday night then it's likely what he was wearing when he went missing the next morning.

Jay's family were told the terrible news that the teen was missing at 2:30am on the Tuesday (18 June) morning, with his stepfather Andy saying that police knocked on their door and told them 'the best thing you can do is get yourself out there'.

The teen's mother flew out to Tenerife the same day, and said she was 'obviously beside myself with worry' upon arriving on the island.

A spokesperson for the Civil Guard said: "A specialist Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group called the Greim have been mobilised.

"A police helicopter is also out and focusing on the area around the village of Masca.

"Other emergency services including firefighters have also been mobilised.

"Everything possible is being done to try to find the missing man."

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: "We are supporting the family of a British man who has been reported missing in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities."
