Man who hasn't slept since 1963 made sad admission about life with his condition

The 81-year-old says he hasn't slept in 60 years

A man who 'hasn't slept' in 60 years has opened about what it's like to live with such a strange condition.

As someone who often complains about sleep quality from doing shift work, it sounds like a pretty minuscule problem to what Thai Ngoc has been facing for so long.

The Vietnamese farmer, reported to be in his 80s, claims to have barely slept a wink since the early 60s after contracting a sudden fever.

Even the medical prescriptions he was put on didn't help, and the hospital he visited couldn't provide an explanation either.

"It's frustrating and exasperating," he told Vietnamnet.

"What a peculiar ailment. Seeing others sleep, I envy them. On moonlit nights, I usually go out to weed and till the soil because sitting still is unbearable.

"It's strange that I work twice as much as others, yet my life is still not that prosperous."

Whilst the condition continues to bemuse his family, some have suggested that his permanent case of insomnia is linked to an unusual case of PTSD from the Vietnam War, which raged on from 1955 to 1975.

YouTuber Drew Binsky headed to Vietnam in 2023 to learn about his condition.

The American content creator is known for vlogging his travels, having visited all 197 countries in the world.

"Whatever the case is, I traveled two days from Arizona to a small village in South Vietnam to track him down, stay up all night with him, and see if it was actually true that he doesn’t sleep," Binsky said.

Now, you're probably wondering what he does with all of his not sleeping time, and Ngoc explained that with his work in the field, he makes his home brew of wine in the evening.

Although sampling shots of rice wine does make him a little tired, it's still not enough to make him sleep.

However, a translator said that 'when he drinks a a lot, he sleeps a little bit. Maybe one or two hours.'

So, I guess he is human, after all.

"But more often than not, around 4 am he will simply go lie down in his bed but not actually get to sleep, with his mind still racing as it does when he is awake," they added.

While most of us would struggle with day-to-day life, the veteran claims he 'can still carry 50 kilograms of fertiliser over a four-kilometre distance from my house to the field without feeling tired'.
