A woman has uncovered a dark family secret - and it all stemmed from casually taking a DNA test.
The 20-year-old took to Reddit to explain how the reading changed her family life forever, leaving her loved ones devastated.
Living with her 46-year-old dad at the time, the daughter writes that the pair have been extremely close ever since her mum 'passed away due to medical issues when I was young'.

"A couple weeks back, my dad got a DNA test (23andme) as a gift from his friends for his birthday," she said in a post from three years ago, during the coronavirus pandemic.
"I decided to get one too so we could compare our results and other stuff included in the package. This was all around five weeks ago."
When they finally got the results back, the daughter thought it was 'quite interesting to see the breakdowns of our ancestry plus traits we had'.

However, after doing 'the DNA relative finder, this is where everything started going downhill'.
It showed that her 'uncle' - who she is 'relatively close' to - was even closer to her than initially thought.
"As we looked into it more, it listed my 'uncle' as my father, alongside my "cousins" (he has two sons 18M and 20M) as my half-brothers," she continued.
"My dad and I started looking up if this was normal, if errors occur in their database, and we are now pretty sure that the probability of my 'uncle' being my biological father is pretty high.

"I don't know what to do about this.
"I never dreamed this would happen as I look so much like my father (though that means I look a lot like my uncle too).
"My dad called my 'uncle' but he wasn't able to reach him. I tried it too, but it's not working.

"I am not sure if he's already gotten a message on his end that I am his daughter."
She insinuated that her 'uncle' had her with her late mum.
After asking for advice in the comments section, one person said: "Tell your dad that he is your dad no matter what and you don’t care what the test says!

"Tell him that you love him and you’re here for him; that he doesn’t have to go through this alone."
"I'm sure it's been said but he is your dad he's the one you shared the memories with don't let this test get in the way of your relationship," another added.
Amid the confusion, the Redditor explained that she still has a 'good relationship' with him, 'despite the test'.
