Harry Styles' mum shares heartbreaking tribute to Liam Payne after One Direction star's tragic death

The former One Direction band member's mum shared an emotional message on social media

Harry Styles' mother has paid tribute to the late Liam Payne, who was part of One Direction with her son in the early 2010s.

On Wednesday night (16 October), authorities in Buenos Aires, Argentina, said in a statement that Liam Payne, 31, had been pronounced dead following a fall from a third floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in the country's capital.

Fans gathered outside the hotel in the hours after to pay tribute to the former One Direction star, who was reportedly in the Argentinian city to see former bandmate Niall Horan perform a few days prior.

A statement from local police revealed that they had been called to the hotel after reports of an 'aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol'.

According to PA, the head of the state emergency medical system, Alberto Crescenti, stated that local channel Todo Noticias TV reported that Payne fell into the hotel's courtyard.

He explained: "The alarm was raised at 5.04pm local time saying a person was lying in an internal patio at Casa Sur. At 5.11pm an ambulance arrived and the man was certified dead.

"Afterwards we found out he had been a famous singer. Unfortunately the injuries he had suffered as a result of the fall proved to be fatal. There was no possibility of resuscitating him."

He has since added that the singer fell around 40 metres and sustained 'severe injuries which were incompatible with life'.

Tributes have began pouring in for the star, with one most recently coming from former One Direction bandmate Harry Styles' mother, Anne Twist.

She took to Instagram to pay tribute and share her grief over the sudden passing of Payne, posting a black screen with a broken heart emoji over the top, captioning the post: "Just a boy..." with another broken heart emoji.

Her 2.5 million followers also shared her sadness, sharing their condolences in the comments.

Payne shot to fame as a member of British boy band One Direction, which also consisted of Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson.

Police have since launched an investigation into the sudden death, while tributes from celebrities have been shared on social media.

Former X Factor duo Jedward wrote: "RIP Liam Payne. Condolences to friends and family."

Paris Hilton commented: "So upsetting to hear the news of @LiamPayne passing. Sending love and condolences to his family & loved ones. RIP my friend."

Charlie Puth, who Payne worked with on the song Bedroom Floor, wrote on Instagram: "I am in shock right now.

"Liam was always so kind to me. He was one of the first major artists I got to work with. I cannot believe he is gone."

A statement on the official X account of the Brit Awards said: “We’re incredibly sad to learn of the tragic passing of Liam Payne.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family at this time."
