Lily Allen has admitted she ‘had children for all the wrong reasons’ in a recent emotional confession.
The ‘Smile’ singer was chatting to her pal Miquita Oliver on their podcast Miss Me? where she previously spoke about her OnlyFans venture and the whole giving up the dog drama began.
Oliver was talking about having recently been to a friend’s (the one and only Nick Grimshaw that is) 40th birthday party where she realised 80 percent of her mates had become mothers. This made her ask herself again if she ‘even wants’ to become one herself.

She explained how at 40 as a woman, ‘everyone’ is always asking about it and it feels like there’s a ticking time bomb on her chances.
So, with that ‘tick’ in her head, she wanting to get her friend’s thoughts as she’s been a mum since they were ‘so young’.
Now 39, Allen is mum to daughters Ethel, 13, and Marnie, 11, who she shares with ex-husband Sam Cooper.

“I think I had children for all the wrong reasons really,” the pop star admitted, before adding: “Because I was yearning for unconditional love which I haven’t felt in my life, since I was a child.
“Also, my career was at such a high speed, high pressure, and I’m such a people pleaser. I felt very overwhelmed by what was happening.”
So, while she ‘didn’t get much respite’, Allen felt like there was ‘one way to stop people hassling’ her and that was to be able to say: “It’s not about me actually, it’s this other person that’s inside me.”

And when Oliver asked if this did actually work for her, the ‘Not Fair’ singer confessed it did get people to ‘leave her alone’.
“I don’t think I understood what I got myself into,” the star continued. “You know, my mum, bless her, had children really early as well, and she really struggled.
“But she doesn’t really talk about the struggle.
"So, she sort of inadvertently gaslit me into thinking it was easy - you just sort of throw the kid over your shoulder and you get on with it.”

However, Allen explained she and her mum had very different lifestyles as her job was ‘very static’ in an office while hers was of course as a pop star.
“It wasn’t easy,” she added. “It just wasn’t easy.”
The singer concluded by telling her bestie Oliver she reckons she’d be ‘a great mum’.
