Years after fans watched him take on opponents in the wrestling ring, Dwayne Johnson is now taking on a new kind of competition in the new DC film Black Adam.
Based on the DC Comics character of the same name, Black Adam will see Johnson's character go up against the Justice Society of America, which is made up in the film by Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Quinetessa Swindell as Cyclone, and Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate.

The trailer for the film reveals Adam lost his son, who 'sacrificed' himself for his dad, leaving the anti-hero to 'kneel before no one'.
Both the trailer and a poster for the DC movie show off Adam's black uniform, which features the yellow lightening typically seen as a symbol of the wizard Shazam, who gave the powers of ancient gods to the character of Billy Batson.
The fact Adam also has this symbol indicates he, too, has the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury.
All in all, it sounds like he could put up some good competition.

Black Adam producer Hiram Garcia has previously revealed the creators had 'a couple of things [they] wanted to convey' in the trailer, telling io9: "One, that the movie’s fun. The movie’s big. Two, I think that when you see Black Adam, you realize that we’re honouring the comic book version of Black Adam.
"He doesn’t pull his punches. He can be judge, jury, and executioner. And his approach to how he does things is very much opposite of what typical heroes would do," Garcia said.
The upcoming release acts as the origin story for Black Adam, with Garcia explaining that the Justice Society of America feature in the film because the protagonist is someone who's hard to ignore.
"When Black Adam arrives, when a person at that power level comes on the scene, it’s the type of thing that gets the entire planet to notice.

"So naturally, there are going to be people who investigate the arrival of someone like that. And that’s the kind of energy that brings these two together. He’s a threat and they’re not used to having someone like that, who’s a live wire, that powerful, and so a team needs to go investigate.”
Joining Johnson and the Justice Society cast members in the film will be Marwan Kenzari, James Cusati-Moyer and Bodhi Sabongui.
