The latest film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe dropped earlier this week but it’s not exactly had rave reviews.
Starring Dakota Johnson in the titular role, Madame Web was released on Wednesday (14 February,) with the actor making an interesting confession during its promo.
Watch the film trailer here:
Johnson’s Cassandra Web is a paramedic in New York City who uses her newfound ability to see into the future to protect three young women (played by Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O'Connor and Isabella Merced) from villain Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim).

But Madame Web hasn’t seen much positivity in its present, currently sitting at just 14 percent on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer.
That’s a drop from earlier this week, and it now has an audience score of a rather unimpressive 54 percent.
It’s hardly scores a Marvel character would want for their film debut, with critics calling it ‘lifeless’.

One did write though: “For much of Madame Web, even when it turns bad, it’s a pleasure to see Johnson in this kind of movie.”
But it turns out Johnson hasn’t even watched it herself yet.
During an interview with Magic Radio, she said she hasn’t ‘actually seen the movie’ and usually sneaks out of her premieres to ‘go to have dinner’.
“I probably won’t – I don’t know when I’ll see it,” Johnson said. “Someday.”

It’s not just that she’s avoiding Madame Web specifically though, as she’s only seen ‘some’ of the films she’s appeared in throughout her career.
The star said not watching her movies is a way ‘to not have an existential crisis’.

“For me, not watching my movies is self-care,” she added.
Well, fair enough to be honest – it must be pretty weird to sit and watch yourself on the big screen.
Johnson is well-known for her honesty, from calling out Ellen DeGeneres in birthday party invite gate to saying filming a minor role for The Office was ‘the worst time of [her] life’.

She previously told EW that she had no idea whether her performance in Madame Web would ‘be good at all’ and told Seth Meyers: “You don’t have to know anything about anything at all to watch this movie.”
Audiences have given mixed reviews on Rotten Tomatoes with some writing: “They really messed up a character with so much potential.”
While others call it an ‘awesome’ film that ‘did not deserve the hate’.
And one simply put: “It wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t great.”
Madame Web is now in cinemas.
