Forget all those fancy cameras that were dotted around the San Diego Convention Center as Comic-Con got underway, as it was a fan who captured some of the best footage of the Doctor Doom announcement.
In scenes which somewhat resembled the finale episode of The Masked Singer, actor Robert Downey Jr stepped up to the centre of the stage and removed his face covering to reveal that he will be playing the Marvel villain.
It's safe to say the news came as a shock to fans of the MCU, who are used to seeing the Oscar winner wearing Tony Stark's red and gold mask, but their reaction in the room on Saturday (27 July) was still incredible.
Following the death of Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame, it was thought that Downey Jr's Marvel days might be over for good, but director duo Joe and Anthony Russo apparently had other plans.

Film fanatic @WatchWithNeebz2 captured the moment that the brothers built up the unveiling of Doctor Doom and kindly shared the brilliant footage to TikTok.
The Russo brothers stood in front of more than a dozen olive-robed blokes who were all donning masks before saying: "If we’re going to bring Victor Von Doom to the screen, he is one of the more complex characters in all of comics.
"This is potentially one of the more entertaining characters in all of fiction. If we’re going to do this... then we are going to need the greatest actor in the world."

Robert Downey Jr, please come on down.
As the crowd began eagerly peering forward to see who the directors rate as the best in showbiz, Joe Russo continued: "Ladies and gentlemen... as proof of the unimaginable possibilities of the Marvel Universe, we give you the one person who could play Victor von Doom..."
Cue Downey Jr walking to the front of the stage and unmasking himself like an absolute boss, before delivering one of the coldest lines that Comic-Con has ever heard.

While the crowd was erupting, the Oppenheimer star, 59, said: "New mask... same task. What can I tell ya, I like playing complicated characters."
The only thing that could have possibly heightened Downey Jr's coolness further was a mic drop, but he settled for holding his Doctor Doom mask up to the crowd instead to signify the news that he will star in Avengers: Doomsday.
The flick is set to be released in May 2026, and a further instalment titled Secret Wars is expected to arrive a year later.
Now you've probably already seen multiple angles of Downey Jr lapping up the applause following the reveal, but footage of fan reactions are a bit scarcer.

Thankfully, Neebz perfectly captured the moment as the clip she shared online shows stunned Comic-Con attendees yelling: "No way, what the f**k!"
Among all the whooping and cries of 'hell yeah!', the TikToker managed to find a second to flip the camera and document his reaction to the news - and the look on his face says it all, really.
"It was insane," Neebz told social media users in the comment section. "Bro about to carry the MCU on his back for another five years."
Turns out being up on stage isn't all that, as it's in the thick of the crowd where you really appreciate the atmosphere.
