It's been more than 12 months now since we had the last real GTA 6 update but that doesn't mean the rumour mill has quietened down. In fact, it has been quite the opposite.
And the latest on the matter comes from one former Rockstar developer who has explained why millions of gamers playing the soon-to-be-released product on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S could well be left bitterly disappointed.
Expected to launch in the autumn of 2025, Grand Theft Auto VI will be the first instalment in the GTA universe since 2013's GTA 5. An iconic game for the PS4 and Xbox One generation, the game is still well-played to this day - showing just how much life there is to a product when Rockstar takes the time to perfect it.
An update on the release of GTA 6 is widely expected to be given by parent company Take-Two Interactive in their earnings report being released next Thursday (February 6).

Will it be a second trailer? Maybe even an exact release date? Right now, we don't know, but fans are counting down the days until we can find out.
Meanwhile, one former Rockstar animator called Mike York has spoken about what we might expect when the new game finally drops.
Speaking to YouTuber Kiwi Talkz, he gave his expert thoughts on how the game might perform on the current generation of consoles, with a PC version not expected for some time after the release to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

And according to York, it may well be bad news for those who have invested in either of the consoles.
Speaking during the interview, York cast doubt on the ability for the game to run at 60 frames per second (FPS).
Instead, he reckons the likelihood is that GTA 6 will run at 30 fps, but on a consistent basis.

For those unaware, frames per second relates to how many singular frames and images there are in every second of footage the eye is watching. The higher the frame rate, the better it is at capturing motion or action sequences in a smoother fashion, where finer detail is wanted.
"I don't know if they'll be able to pull off 60 fps," York said.
"I don't think so. I think they're going to be shooting for 30 fps - and a locked 30 fps, meaning it never dips below that."

But he said performance updates on this could come later down the line as the game is worked on post-release, explaining: "They're going to try to optimise as much as they can to where it never goes below 30.
"But it can be bumped up to 40, 41, 52... whatever."
As for the future PC version, York said 60 fps would likely be available by the time that comes around, given it will be a few years before it is made for those who don't game on a console.
