Take-Two boss speaks out as GTA 6 release date update is confirmed

Take-Two boss speaks out as GTA 6 release date update is confirmed

Surprise surprise, we don't have an exact release date

Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick has addressed the latest news on Grand Theft Auto VI's release date amid fan uncertainty.

Ever since the initial GTA 6 trailer back in December 2023 it's felt like radio silence for updates on the game, leading many impatient fans to worry the highly-anticipated game would be delayed and were expecting to hear as much at the Take Two's earnings call.

Today (6 February) saw the call take place, with fans praying to hear some good news about the highly anticipated release. And it's neither good or bad news on that front.

As of today, the release date remains as Autumn 2025.

"Looking ahead, this calendar year is shaping up to be one of the strongest ever for Take-Two," official documents said of the company's release schedule, via The Independent.

"We plan to launch Sid Meier’s Civilization VII on February 11, Mafia: The Old Country in the Summer, GTA 6 in the Fall, and Borderlands 4."

So the game hasn't been delayed, but it also doesn't have a concrete date in the calendar.

Speaking about the vague timeframe in an interview with IGN ahead of the earnings call, Zelnick acknowledged that fans may be disappointed with the vague schedule.

"Look, there's always a risk of slippage and I think as soon as you say words like absolutely, you jinx things. So we feel really good about it," he said.

"I think the game is eagerly anticipated both internally and externally. We know that Rockstar seeks perfection. I never claim success before it occurs. Our whole organisation is super excited."

Speaking further about Take-Two’s release schedule to Variety, Zelnick teased 'most extraordinarily exciting release schedule I think we’ve ever had'.

"We’ve announced a pretty narrow window. So I think our view is that right now, that’s fine," he added. "And then when it’s appropriate, of course, Rockstar is going to have more to say."

Meanwhile GTA fans are in two camps about the announcement, with some people understandably frustrated by the vague timeline, while others were just happy there wasn't an official delay.

"Massive W. Marketing should start up soon then. If we still hear nothing I guess we wait til the May call lol," one optimistic user wrote on a Reddit thread discussing the topic.

"Feels weird to be this close, just waiting for the world to collapse before it releases," a second person added.

While a third user speculated: "Take Two would never miss potential Holiday 2025 sales. This game is releasing September or October 100%"

However others weren't feeling as certain. "Give me a f**king pixel Rockstar," one desperate user wrote.

"In all honesty, this p****s me off more," a second added. "They're completely ruining the hype but not doing any marketing."

Let's hope we get an exact date (and perhaps a trailer too) in the May earnings call.
