The upcoming video game from the Ghostbusters franchise, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, has finally received a release date.
Game developer IllFonic, creators of games Friday the 13th and Predator: Hunting Grounds, have announced the game will drop on October 18.
That means it’s not too long of a wait until fans of the Ghostbuster films can relive the film’s nostalgic silliness and humour in video game form.

The four versus one game will see players partake in a team of four ghostbusters, working together to, well, bust some ghosts.
Unlike previous IllFonic games which focused on escaping, Spirits Unleashed requires a human team of ghostbusters to defeat and capture an also player-controlled ghost, while navigating classically silly Ghostbusters chaos.
The ghost will be able to possess objects to hide in plain sight, fly and teleport between rifts, whilst also slowing down the team with slime, and summoning various minions.

Spirits Unleashed will come with several maps including a museum, an abandoned prison, and iconic Ghostbusters locations such as the Firehouse.
In their preview of the game, IGN wrote that the 'individual trappings, characters, and references to crossing the streams carry lots of nostalgia weight in the Ghostbusters franchise', also noting that the game 'correctly understands that the essence of the original film is very, very silly'.
IllFonic CEO, Charles Brungardt has also said 'the reaction from fans of Ghostbusters has blown us away'.
Preorders are now live for all versions of the game - PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via the Epic Games Store.

Preordering digitally will give players early access to Slimer, a custom Particle Thrower and Proton Pack, and special clothing colourways.
IllFonic has also teased that further information will be coming at Gamescom next week.
