James Buckley says Inbetweeners revival would be 'creepy' and reminds fans age Joe Thomas turns this year

The actor turned YouTuber ruled out a reunion of the four characters

Fans of The Inbetweeners have long been calling for the cast to get back together for a revival, but one cast member isn't sure it would work.

James Buckley starred as Jay in the Channel Four comedy which ran from 2008 to 2010.

Jay was known for his tall tales about his sexual escapades, which he regularly shared with his sixth form friends Simon (Joe Thomas), Will (Simon Bird) and Neil (Blake Harrison).

The quartet's antics made for hilarious - if not absolutely cringeworthy - television, so it's not surprising that many want to see it make a return to the small screen.

But Buckley, who now works as a YouTuber, deemed the idea of a reboot as 'sad and creepy', reiterating what his co-star Bird had already said.

Buckleys said: "No, it would be [sad and creepy].

"Yeah, no, I think... see, the thing is, I think we all are on the same page with The Inbetweeners.

"In that, I think if we could have all stayed 19 forever, and if it would still be funny, we would have done it forever. It was the best job in the world.

"They're my mates and I love being with them. And all we did was make each other laugh the whole time we were doing it.

"But it's sad and pathetic, you know? I think one of the boys, I think Joe Thomas, is 40 this year. It's, no... it's not good, is it?"

For those keeping score at home, Simon's actor will indeed be turning the big 4-0 this year.

Not far beyond him are Bird who is 38, Harrison who is 37 and Buckley himself who is 35.

The show's juvenile antics admittedly might not translate well to a bunch of men who would likely have mortgages on their minds rather than scoring at the caravan club.

Regardless, the show's legacy lives on.

After it concluded its third and final season in 2010, the characters went on to have two final adventures in full length films.

The first movie, released in 2011, saw the lads hitting the clubs in Malia where the expected antics took place.

In the sequel, which came out in 2014, the boys headed to the Land Down Under where they caused chaos in a water park and took a road trip into the outback.

In 2019, the cast reunited for a reunion special but it was poorly received by fans.
