Jerry Bruckheimer says the National Treasure 3 script is ‘really good’

It looks like the third National Treasure film is inching ever so closer to reality.

The film's producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, says the script so far is 'really good' and they're sending a copy over to Nicolas Cage to have his take on it.

"We're working on the script right now," he told ComicBook.com. "Hopefully [Cage] likes it, but it's really good. So I think we'll get it to him shortly."

When talk about National Treasure 3 started after the sequel was released, Cage had an interesting idea to elevate it from the previous films.

Speaking to ComingSoon.net back in 2007, the actor said: "With National Treasure I believe that it should become more and more 'International Treasure'.

"I was very happy to see that we went to London, England and Paris, France, but I'd like to see the movie go wider still.

"I'd like to go into Africa, Egypt, Asia, and keep going. My hope is that Ben [Gates, the films' lead character] is recruited and he gets a dossier from these other countries about their history, and has to download it and learn it, and then try to go on these hunts on their behalf.

"That would be a lot of fun for me."

To be fair, that would be fun for loads of people. However, it's clear Cage has had a change of heart since then.

During a Reddit Ask Me Anything earlier this year, a fan asked Cage if he thought National Treasure 3 would happen and he seemed pretty pessimistic about the idea.

"No, the priority was to turn it into a TV show so I would say probably not," he said.

It's unclear whether Cage will be a part of the TV series that's currently in development.

National Treasure: Edge of History kicked off production earlier this year and the crew is desperate to get the Academy Award-winner on the small screen.

The show's co-creator, Marianne Wibberley, told Deadline: "We're going to beg and plead and whatever. We'll have him in two seconds.

"He's our favorite actor out of everyone. We pitched him as Ben Gates before he was Ben Gates. He was our first choice."

The TV series will would follow the same concept as the films but with a younger cast.

It's unclear when the show is expected to premiere so we'll have to hold our breath on that one.

Let's just hope Cage likes the script for National Treasure 3.
