Spoiler warning: the following articles contains spoilers for Umbrella Academy season four.

Netflix’s Umbrella Academy has finally wrapped up its last season.

Did it end with a bang? With a satisfying ending that leaves fans happy, knowing that the ride is over, but they loved the journey to get their?

No. That isn’t what happened.

The final season of the TV show is out, and it has been absolutely ripped into by fans for a variety of reasons.

Whether it be there only being six episodes, plot threads being randomly dropped left right and centre, or the sidelining of brilliant characters, reviews by fans and critics alike for the final season have been dire.

One particular plot thread, however, has been creeping fans out, with one going as far as to say it had them actively looking away from the screen.

This is the spoiler cut off point. If you continue reading past this point, please do not yell at me – you have been warned.

Season three’s finale left our heroes stranded in another timeline with no powers, but knowing the world would no longer end.

After a six-year time jump, Diego and Lila are suburban parents, Five is a CIA agent, and Klaus is a sober germaphobe crossing guard.

The first episode introduces a bizarre subplot in which it appears to be hinting that Lyla and Five might have a romantic affair.

This is creepy on just.. so many levels. Beyond the fact that she is his brother’s wife, Five is a time travelling weirdo who is supposed to look 13 despite being in his 60s.

Add to this the fact the actor is therefore 20, whilst the actor for Lila is 35, and it’s all round a weird subplot to introduce, but it never pays off right?

Wrong. The pair kiss after a bizarre separate subplot in which they are both trapped in a subway tunnel for years together.

One fan said: “I had a feeling it was coming and I kept praying it wouldn’t happen”.

Another replied saying: “same I kept saying ‘stop stop stop’ the whole montage”.

A third said: “But Lila is with Diego… five would never. RIGHT!!? RIGHT?!?!!”

Many fans feel it would be out of character for the family focused characters to betray Diego, with one tweeting: “it’s beyond out of his character they are really just killing every good part of the show this season”.

Another said: “I couldn't even watch it I looked away”.
