Second season of Netflix's Monster is being released this year and the killers have been confirmed

The serial killers made a name for themselves in 1990s America

The second season of the hit Netflix series Monster is set to be released later this year - and the killers it will be about have been revealed.

Named Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, the first season of the Netflix series followed the life of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer (played by Evan Peters) as he became one of the most notorious serial killers in the US; and made his way across the American Midwest to find and murder his victims between 1978 and 1991.

The true crime TV series dramatises aspects of Dahmer's life, such as times where he was nearly caught, before finally being rumbled by police and imprisoned.

Exploring themes such as police incompetence and a lack of apathy from the serial killer, fans were hooked on the 2022 series, and were even more excited when it was announced in 2023 that a second series was on the way, focusing on a different serial killer.

The first season did so well, in fact, that it became one of the streaming platform's most-watched shows of all-time, eventually reaching one billion view hours in its first 60 days.

Creators Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan are finally ready to bring the anthology series back to our screens, looking at yet another high-profile case that took the US by storm in the 1990s.

Despite the fact that fans were promised the story of one brutal serial killer, they were instead given two - a treat for true crime series lovers.

The second season of the anthology series has been called Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

Lyle and Erik Menendez became notoriously known in 1989 for being suspects in a case which saw both of their parents murdered, and the series will cover the events surrounding the heartless killings.

It will follow the two brothers who fatally shot parents, José and Mary Louise Menéndez, in their Beverly Hills home.

In court, the pair cited years of sexual, emotional and physical abuse as a reason for their acts, but the prosecution argued that they only did it to get their share of the family fortune.

Eventually, the brothers were both convicted of first-degree murder and were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny are set to star as the parents, while new faces Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch are set to play Lyle and Erik Menendez.

Nathan Lane, Ari Graynor, Leslie Grossman and Dallas Roberts also join the cast for the long-awaited second season of the series, among others.

Fans have been sharing their excitement on social media, taking to Facebook group, Netflix Bangers.

One user posted: "Not gonna front im excited about the brothers"

A second said: "We need more shows like Monster"

Another put: "Season 2 is about The Menendez Brothers. I'm hoping Season 3 will be John Gacy. Season 4 Ted Bundy."

Let's get season two out the way first, though.
