The story of the Menendez brothers shows no sign of slowing down, as Netflix have released a new documentary about the their case.
The documentary follows the series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, which was deeply controversial.
The documentary, simply called The Menendez Brothers, has shot to the top of Netflix in the UK, meaning that the number one spot on the streamer’s TV and Film charts are taken up by projects focused on the brothers.
Whereas the creator of Monsters, Ryan Murphy, has slammed the Menendez brothers and said ‘they should send him flowers’, the doc sees the brothers speak out in a rare set of interviews in which they put across their side of the story.

One particular scene in the documentary though is having a major effect on viewers, with some saying they’re ‘sick’, and others being left in tears.
The scene in question shows the reaction to the brothers' accusing their parents of sexual abuse during the trial.
Both brothers have maintained that they killed their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, due to fearing for their lives in the wake of years of sexual abuse from Jose, which they claim Kitty was aware of.
The footage shows various clips of their accounts being questioned and mocked.

It opens with one fan of theirs on a chat show being yelled at by someone saying ‘how do you know they were sexually abused’.
Oprah Winfrey was then shown saying: “The defence used psychological manipulation of the jurors by putting nice looking wealthy young men in sweaters crying on the stand."
It also shows how frivolously the media were taking the trial, with Sandra Bernhard being shown on the David Letterman Show saying: “These two arrogant brothers are going to fry."
Jay Leno is also shown mocking the brothers and suggesting they’ve set up a ‘sitcom’.

Another said: “Feel f*cking sick and disgusted that these boys were failed by everyone around them and then became a media circus that people used to made fun of and not take seriously.”
A third tweeted: “The part in the Menendez Brothers doc when they showed everyone making fun of them & their trauma made me sick.

“The fact that people keep saying they’re guilty like yeah no sh*t, they admitted to it & never denied it so ?? we’re talking about everything they went through leading up to the murders & WHY they felt like this was a last option for them.”
The Menendez Brothers is streaming on Netflix now.
