After a video circulated online showing the reality of a cruise ship during some rough waters, people have well and truly been put off taking to the seas for their next summer holiday.
Now, there's no denying that cruise holidays are all the rage right now.
Whether you're setting sail to the Caribbean or taking a voyage around the Mediterranean's best spots, it seems everyone is embarking on a holiday out at sea this year.

But a life on the ocean comes with some pretty terrifying realities, as a recent TikTok video has certainly proven.
Posted by the account @daysoutworldwide, the short clip shows a cruise ship's swimming pool during the evening.
But instead of looking like a regular pool - you know, lovely calm waters - the pool's contents are sloshing about ferociously.

Along with the onscreen caption of 'look how rough it gets', the video gives a terrifying insight into what it's like to be onboard a cruise ship during stormy weather.
It's a massive nope from me.
And it seems people in the comments agree, with one penning: "Every time I think I want to book a cruise… I see a video like this."

Another said: "Who needs a wave machine... but things like that put me off a cruise," and a third added: "WHY AM I SEEING THIS WHEN I'M GOING TO BE BOARDING A CRUISE SHIP IN 12 HOURS."
But amazingly so, many weren't fazed by the wrath of a stormy ocean, as one said: "My toxic trait is thinking that this would be fun."
And a second even said: "That would be so fun to swim on omg."
So, I can imagine many are pondering what the procedures are to keep guests safe when a cruise ship encounters some choppy waters.

As many avid cruise-goers will know, because the ship is that big, it takes quite a lot to feel the effects of a choppy ocean.
But for the instances when the ship is dealt with some blows, safety of guests is always first priority.

Cruise blog Emma Cruises - who has sailed upon many cruises in her lifetime - explained exactly what happens to the swimming pools when the ship encounters bad weather.
"The swimming pools were closed because the water splashing around was dangerous," she said about a trip she took from the UK in December.
"Having big swimming pools on cruise ships means that the effect is multiplied and even the slightest movement can create big splashes.
"Cruise ship pools are designed like this, which is why they have this big overflow area around the edges."
And a former worker for Royal Caribbean told curious holiday-goers over on Quora that during bad weather, some ships will close the pools and then drain them of their contents into storage tanks until it is deemed safe enough to refill them.
Happy cruising!
