Holidays are something we can take for granted - sometimes we might even think that we don't get enough of them over the year.
But several Brits have been left with their jaws on the floor after finding out just how many days Americans get each year for their 'vacations'.
An American TikToker has recently gone viral after posting a video that compared an American employee coming back to work from their holiday with a British employee doing the same thing.

Known as @anndreacalleste on TikTok, she has brought the difference between the two countries to light - in the form of skit that is.
As the American employee, she appears scared and shaky upon her return to work despite having a smile across her face following her two day holiday.
She also says she 'got a lot of work done in the afternoon' in order to 'catch-up' before she came back.
When playing the British employee, she appears completely relaxed and refreshed after her 'two week holiday', even blowing the meeting off as 'it was 5:48' and going to the pub.

It may seem like a funny video, but there's a lot of truth behind it.
US law states that there is no legal obligation for companies to provide PTO (paid time off) to employees at all.
Yes you read that right. Zero.

Instead, it is up to the discretion of each company, though many will include them in their compensation packages in order to stay competitive and desirable in the market.
The icing on the cake is how much holiday the average American worker gets in a year: Just 11 days.
This is in stark contrast to what British companies are legally required to offer full-time employees, which is 5.6 weeks (28 days) off per year, known as the Statutory annual leave entitlement.

Working weeks in typical jobs in the US and UK are similar too - with 9-5 Monday to Friday jobs being the most common, making the difference even more unbelievable.
Part-time workers are also often given no PTO in the US, only being paid for their time on the job.
In the UK, they are given less than 28 days, but instead days in proportionate to the amount of time they have worked.

You have to say, poor America.
Although vacation time for certain holidays, like Christmas and Independence Day, are legal requirements.
Viewers in the comments shared their shock, as one said: "Is this normal in the us???"
Another commented: "So why is the work ethic, in the great US of A, so unrealistic."
An American viewer chipped in: "I can’t even take one week off per year in the US, so burned out," followed by two skull emojis.
Thinking about it, it's insane that we get almost triple the number of holidays that the average American does.
