Here is the heartbreaking reason why former child star Amanda Bynes left Hollywood after starring in her final film at the age of 24.
Anyone who grew up in the late 90s and early 2000s will instantly recognise the Bynes as the star of numerous hit children's TV shows on Nickelodeon. The actor began her career at the age of seven and was later scouted by the kids' network, where she starred in the likes of All That, Figure It Out and Blue's Clues.
After leading her own spin-off series The Amanda Show from 1999 until 2002, Bynes would make the transition into the world of film, starring in popular teen comedies What a Girl Wants, She's the Man and Hairspray.

Despite going from success to success with her career, Bynes would step away from acting in 2010, with the now-39-year-old later struggling with various mental health and legal issues.
Her final role would come at the age of 24, when she starred across from Emma Stone in Easy A, a US high school re-imagination of 1850 novel The Scarlet Letter.
Bynes played Marianne Bryant, the pious and prudish antithesis to Stone's Olive Penderghast, with the film being considered a commercial success for both actors.
But while Stone would go on to become an Oscar-winning actor, Bynes would drop out of her next movie Hall Pass, later announcing her indefinite hiatus.

It would be a decision shrouded in mystery for the next eight years, until Bynes revealed in an interview with Paper Magazine that body-image issues had influenced her decision to quit acting.
"I literally couldn't stand my appearance in that movie and I didn't like my performance," Bynes said of Easy A.
"I was absolutely convinced I needed to stop acting after seeing it."
Explaining that she was on marijuana at the premiere - a decision which she believes may have impacted her judgement - Bynes continued: "I saw it and I was convinced that I should never be on camera again."

This wouldn't be the only time where Bynes struggled with her appearance in a film, adding that seeing herself dressed as a boy in She's the Man caused her to go 'into a deep depression for 4-6 months'.
The former actor added that her sudden decision to retire from the industry was the beginning of her dark spiral into substance abuse.
Bynes would be charged with a driving under the influence (DUI) in 2012 and later reckless endangerment in 2013. She would be placed under conservatorship of her parents from 2013 until 2022.
The former child star would later make a brief foray into the world of podcasting, before revealing she was working as a nail technician.
