Joe Jonas once vowed to abstain from sex before eventually marrying Sophie Turner.
After four years of marriage, Jonas, 34, and the Game of Thrones actor have called it quits, but the 'Sucker' singer previously opened up about his childhood oath to remain celibate until marriage.
Jonas, along with his two other brothers, Nick and Kevin, once all donned purity rings in a hopes to 'wait for the right person'.

During a Carpool Karaoke with James Corden back in 2019, Joe explained: "Purity rings were to wait for the right person, when the time was right. And here’s the catch.
"When you’re like 12 and you do that, because we grew up in a church and our dad was a pastor, so it kind of just came natural for everyone we grew up with to go through this, and get one, and say, 'I'm gonna wait for the right person.'"
He joked: "Some people would say, 'I'm gonna wait until marriage.'

"When you’re about 15, 16, and start dating, and you go, 'Wait a minute. What did I say I was gonna do?'
Jonas revealed he and his brother were originally 'never gonna talk about' the situation.
He explained: "Of course, you have three young boys wearing rings on their fingers, and everyone is like, 'Are they married already?'
"We were in an interview one day, and the guy asked about them and we said we didn’t wanna talk about them, and he said, 'Well, I’m just gonna say you’re in a cult'.

After a whole load of speculation on the matter, the trio decided: "Look, this is not who we are…this is annoying, people are making fun of it anyway, we can make fun of it ourselves."
So, the rings came off and the rest was history.
Jonas' purity ring was swapped out for a wedding ring when he and Turner, 27, got married back in 2019 after eloping to Las Vegas for a surprise wedding, and have since had two children together.

Jonas has since filed the divorce papers at the Miami Dade County Court on Tuesday (5 September) with NBC News reporting that the 'Sucker' singer said their marriage is 'irretrievably broken'.
He also added that the pair 'have shared parental responsibility' over their children as well as a prenuptial agreement.
The pair have since taken to social media to share the news to share a joint statement on the matter.
The announcement, posted to Instagram this afternoon (6 September) read: "Statement from the two of us: After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage.

"There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children."
