Footballer Hulk spoke out on major misconception about relationship before marrying ex-wife's niece

The Brazilian footballer's relationship has long been shrouded in speculation

Hulk spoke out on a major misconception about his relationship before he ended up marrying his ex-wife’s niece.

And no, that’s not some plot line for a bit of Marvel fan-fiction.

Givanildo Vieira de Sousa is a Brazilian footballer who is better known as Hulk thanks to his strength and lethal finishing on the pitch. But it’s also his relationship that perhaps has him more widely known.

Back in 2007, the 38-year-old married Iran Angelo and spent over a decade with her before they split in 2019. But not long after, rumours quickly spread that he was dating her niece, Camila Angelo.

Hulk and Camila officially married in September 2020, with a religious ceremony taking place in January of this year. They also share two children together.

Hulk’s relationship with Camila has long caused speculation that they were having an affair during his relationship with Iran, who he shares three children with - Ian, Tiago and Alice. But he has now slammed this as untrue.

The Atlético Mineiro player previously took to Instagram to clarify: “I never had a relationship with Camila when I was married. I am a man. I was not happy in my marriage. I had countless reasons.”

Hulk did, however, confess that he ‘spent my entire marriage betraying Iran’, alleging she ‘lived a single life’.

The footballer accused his ex-wife of lying before going on to say he only stayed in their relationship because of her pregnancy.

“I started dating and in less than a month you got pregnant. Ian, Tiago and Alice with the blessing of God,” he said. “My marriage didn't come out of love, out of passion, nothing, it was an accident that you got pregnant with Ian. And I took over.

"From the moment I started dating you, I started supporting you and your whole family.”

Further clarifying his claim he never cheated on Iran with her niece, he said they had been separated for over a year before their relationship began.

At the time, Hulk was playing for Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG.

“Camila came to China. I don't think I'm an ugly person and I'm young. Camila is young and extremely beautiful. We ended up getting involved. We were single,” he claimed.

“We came back from China and told the family when you came back and you went to media. I have a clear conscience and peace. If you want to continue cursing me and treating me like a monster, the choice is yours. But criticize on top of the truth."

Iran previously spoke out about not forgiving Camila, saying she had ‘gave everything’ to her.

"If I made a mistake, my God, it was because I loved and trusted too much,” she said.
